DarKev is correct. I had a minor amount of noise with my first set-up. I then moved moved my RT31P2 away from any power strips and from crossing any other cables, and I have had a perfect connection for the past three weeks. When I traveled to a hotel, I put it near a lamp and TV, and had the problem again. When I moved it, I had great quality again. Could this be poor shielding? Just curious. But this sure worked for me!

Which phone adapter has the least problems ? I got the RT31P2.

I signed up with Vonage about a year ago now. They sent me the Motorola ATA VT1005V. I have had absolutely no problems with this analog terminal adapter. The sound is crystal clear. I'm very fussy with this stuff too. I cannot stand noises on the line, and I use the phone frequently.

Vonage Tech Support finally replied back to my e-mail:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Linksys will be providing us with new phone adapters this week that have the fix for the hissing problem. My shipping department has informed me that they will receive the new batch later this week. Once the new batch arrives, I will arrange to send you a replacement for your device.

Thanks

So Vonage knew about the issue and still kept on sending defective phone adapters just to get the business and then let people wait on hold for hours just to talk to technical support.

Sounds like you have the WIRR OF DEATH.. take a second phone and plug it into port 2 and take it off hook.. or if you have the equipment... crimp an RJ11 jack with a wire going from pin 2 to pin3... (shorts it out) and plug it into port 2 on the your linksys device.

The only problem that I have had so far as noise goes is when calling another Vonage customer. My friend is also with Vonage, and whenever I call him, or him me, there is a terrible echo. Yet when I call someone on the POTS phone system, there is no echo. Sometimes once my friend and I get talking, the echoing subsides, but it is annoying. It puzzles me because you would think that calling another Vonage customer that there would be no quality problems at all! Also, my friend and I share the same Cable Modem service through Videotron.

I have a netgear router RT614 and plug in the Motorola VT1000 ata. I experience a very faint high pitch noise that goes up and down in frequency. The noise starts low and creeps to higher pitch in about 10 second cycles. Low to high then 10 seconds later the high pitch goes low again. Any ideas how to rid this slightly annoying problem?

Seattlezoid,
I have the linksys RT31P2, not the netgear. What I have found with this router is that I have to keep it as far away from any other electric devices, and not to cross any other power cords with it. Once I did that, I have had fantastic service. You may well have done all of that, but just wanted to throw it out there in case it helped your problem. Good luck!

Thanks Jayhawker for the advice. I have not tried that yet because my wires have been hanging around for years now and are all intermingled. Maybe this weekend I will get the ambition to get rid of the "rats nest" that I have been cultivating.
Thanks again
