If you want to try it with 2 subnets, then here is how I did it with my setup: Comcast Toshiba PCX1100U <-> RT31P2 <-> Linksys WRT55AG.

The WRT55AG Internet interface is connected to one of the LAN interfaces on the RT31P2.

1) Turn off Network Address Translation on the WRT55AG by changing it's Routing Operating Mode from Gateway to Router.

2) Assign a static IP to the Internet interface of the WRT55AG.
IP Address: 192.168.15.2
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Default gateway: 192.168.15.1
{You will need to type in your ISP's DNS servers}

3) Add a static route from the RT31P2 to the WRT55AG:
Destination LAN IP: 192.168.1.0
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.15.2
Hop count: 1
Interface: Local

Don't use the router portion of the Linksys. Put tape over the 3 router ports so you won't be tempted.

Unless I am not understanding why you are heartbroken over the fact that your phone adapter has some added functionality that some more advanced users could possibly use.

The problem is that I already have a gateway/router/wireless/cable modem combo.

The two access points/gateways/firewalls are interacting, each seems to think the other is an intruder, and the whole network shuts down sporadically. Thus, just "not using" the ethernet connections on the "Linksys BroadBand Router with 2 phone ports", which I am already doing, does not turn it into a "Linksys Phone Adapter".

I am trying different approaches, the newest being trying to open every port on the linksys (since they appear to give no way to just universally drop the firewall, is there one?), and trying 2 subnets per dpgearty's helpful response. I had been trying to configure for 1 subnet, which I think I would still prefer, but I'm at the point where I'll try anything. My situation is different than dpgearty's but the approach is something I could potentially try.

Still, Vonage's advertisements and FAQs all say that I would get a "Linksys Phone Adapter", one that I could take with me, etc. Sending me a "Linksys BroadBand Router with 2 phone ports", really isn't the same thing. I have to configure it in a way that I think I could never realistically take it on the road with me, and I've had to configure it for hours and hours to try to get it to work seemlessly with my other router.

By the way, that font work above is exactly the way Linksys writes the title of the device, everywhere.

I think sometimes extra functionality is not helpful.

It sounds like you have a Linksys WCG200. I had been considering purchasing one of these when I move. If I recall correctly, it's Stateful Packet Inspection firewall will protect against denial-of-service attacks. I was effected at work by this type of protection. The firewall blocked all packets to/from what it considered an attacker for about a half hour, but resumed normal operation after that. The attacker in this case was monitoring software which was periodically pinging a list of hosts.

Perhaps the Vonage traffic is being perceived as an attack. There is a feature of the WCG200 where security event information can be e-mailed. You could configure this and the e-mails might give details of what it is doing.

The firmware of the WCG200 is controlled by the cable company. Perhaps you could follow up with them, especially if you had an e-mail from the router with details, to see if there is a newer firmware which handles Vonage SIP traffic gracefully.

dpgearty, I take it your RT31P2 is closest to your cable modem?

That is correct. I wanted to have the option of using QoS.
