I'm using a Netgear MR814v1 router (firmware 4.14 rc4) with a Linksys PAP2 adapter, Comcast internet service and a single computer. When using the router the PHONE1 LED does not light up--ethernet LED does--and I do not receive a dial tone (internet on my computer works); however, when I connect the PAP2 directly to the modem it works fine. The PAP2 is recognized by the router at 10 MBPS and assigns it an IP address: 192.168.0.2. I've tried rebooting all the components several times and the 80# thing too. I've been at this for 6 hours; any help would be appreciated. |

sounds like you need port forwarding. here are the ports: 5060 – 5061 (UDP) 10000 – 20000 (UDP)
this needs to be set up in your netgear. |

John,
Have you tried putting the PAP2 in the DMZ on your NetGear router? That shouldn't be necessary, but it might help if your router is stopping phone traffic somehow.

I've already done that. I'm sorry about omitting that fact from my initial post. |

Were you saying you had done port forwarding or that you had put the whole device in a DMZ?

Could this be a bad ethernet cable? Are you using the same one when you connect directly to the modem as when you connect the PAP2 to the NetGear router?
Also, you might try using a different ethernet port on your NetGear in case the cable is not making a good connection in the one you've been using.

Fletcher, I was responding to reebok's port forwarding issue. The responses have been so unexpectedly quick that your reply about DMZ was not posted when I began that reply.
So back to your replies, Fletcher: The ethernet cable works; I used it to link router-computer and it worked fine. The DMZ thing I'm not that familiar with. In my Netgear config under WAN setup there is something for Default DMZ Server. Is that what you mean? And if so, what should I put there? The IP address of the PAP2? |

Oh, and yes, Fletcher, I have tried different ethernet ports on the router. Thank you. |

DMZ means "demilitarized zone," I think. At any rate, it means all ports are open on the device whose IP you place in the DMZ.
So, yes, you might try putting the PAP2's IP address in the DMZ on your NetGear router. The advantage of using the DMZ over specific port forwarding is that it covers all bases, because everything is open.

I tried putting the PAP2 in the DMZ, but it didn't help. Any other suggestions, I'm getting desperate. |
