Have been messing with this for a week, have bought two PAP2 phone adapters and hours and hours trying to get it to work. have lynksys router and ripwave modem. Please help!!! Anyone!! I am so frustrated and am out of options to try, I just want my phone service to work.

Heidi,

When and how did you activate your PAP2 devices? Did you set up two phone lines? Are you trying to use both PAP2's or do you mean that you bought one PAP2 and then replaced it with another?

Please tell us exactly what equipment you are using (brands, model numbers, etc.), in what order they are connected, what ports you are using on each, how many computers or other devices you are using and how they are connected. Are you using cable or DSL? Who is your broadband provider?

Are you using LNP to port one or more old phone numbers from your landline or are you just using new Vonage numbers?

With that detailed information we may be able to help you get your system set up and working. If we can't help, we may be able to help you get help from some folks at Vonage -- without necessarily waiting on the phone forever.

This is how I connected them:
ripwave modem (this is wireless broadband service from rioplexwireless)-->ethernet cable to the internet port of a networkseverywhere NR041-WM lynksys router-->ethernet cable from port#2 on router to ethernet port on PAP2 lynksys phone adapter-->phone hooked to phone port #1 on phone adapter
There is one computer on the network that leads out of port#4 on the router.
No LNP.
I a just trying to hook up one phone on the network, I purchased the 2nd phone adapter because I assumed that the process couldn't possibly be so complicated - I assumed that the first one I purchases must have been defective. However, can't get the service to work with 2nd one either.
My guesses for why it's not working:
Something to do with the router - it is DHCP enabled.
Can I use Vonage with wireless broadband at all? it is a 512k connection.

another note:
I connected it all by following the 15 step instructions from the Vonage help site for installing the PAP2 phone adapter. That is, I unplugged everything. The I hooked up the ethernet cables to everything. Then I plugged in the modem, waited 2 minutes, plugged in the router, waited two minutes, plugged in the phone adapter, waited five minutes+, no dial tone and never a light on phone 1. Did this whole hocus-pocus bs about ten times, never even a blink on phone 1.

OK, your setup sounds fine to me. This could be a MAC address problem or defective adapter, but let's try to eliminate some other issues first.

Have you tried the Voip speed test on the left frame of this site? Please do so and post your results for us.

Heidi,

Also open a command prompt on your computer and type:
tftp tftp.vonage.net get test

That will tell us if you are able to reach the Vonage service.

Fletcher
