Post subject: Denver COMCAST=GOOD, South Florida COMCAST=HORRIBLE
I was on
Vonage
when I lived in Denver... had COMCAST, 3Mb down, 275k up... used 160k of the up for an audio webcast and never had a single problem w/ my calls... was on the MOTOROLA MTA unit then.
Now in the Florida Keys, w/ COMCAST... 4Mb down, 375k up.... still running the webcast using 160k up, but now cannot use
Vonage
. When I try, either the call gets all choppy [party called cannot hear me or only get every few words,] plus my webcast starts buffering saying there's not enough outgoing bandwidth for it to stream properly.
So where do we go from here?

I live in the Portland, OR area ( pretty well populated area )and have had no problems at all with
Vonage
and Comcast. I typically use about 2500 minutes a month with no interruptions during a call. So far everything is crystal clear.
The problems that the original poster described might affect a particular region only. I don't think it's fair to say that Comcast doesn't care about this problem when they are in the process of rolling out their own flavor of
Voip
service themselves in the near future. With this in mind, I would believe that they are trying to isolate problems like this and fix them before rolling out their own service for widespread use. This will benefit all
Voip
users on Comcast, not just the Comcast
Voip
customers.

I just spent 30 minutes w/ Tier3 tech support on
Vonage
. They are well aware that there is definitely a QoS problem w/ the LINKSYS RT31P2 routers. After two attempts to upgrade the firmware [which must be done thru VONAGE,] we still had no luck solving this. They are sending me [overnight] the MOTOROLA device that I had used originally w/
Vonage
and had great service. I'll let you know tomorrow how well things go.

Comcast on the NW side of Atlanta is not working well with PAP2. Everyone I spoke with this past weekend said that they could not understand me. I had to use my cell phone in order to talk with people.

I've had
Vonage
on Comcast for 7 months, and up until 2 weeks ago it worked fine. Now it is unusable - the same problem as reported above - call starts okay, then one way goes dead.
To make it worse,
Vonage
is unreachable - no response to multiple emails for the past two weeks, and only a fast busy on their phones...
Sorry if it's a Comcast problem, but I am going to have to drop
Vonage
, I think...
