Annually I spend a couple months in the British Virgin Islands . In the past I have taken my Vonage ATA with me and the service worked without a problem. But this year it seems the local ISP Cable & Wireless has restricted bandwidth of selected ports that Vonage uses. They limit bandwidth on selected ports to 56k! This makes it impossible to send or receive calls. Is there a way to reassign the ports used for voice traffic? Has anyone else seen these kind of shanigans from local ISPs? The rumour down here is the ISP is about to roll out their own Voip service so they are intentionally targeting Vonage users.. |

I have seen a post a while ago about Vonage reconfiguring the ports. I would look for it but it's not worth the time because all it said was that Vonage did it. so just give them a call (and keep trying) until you can find someone who will do it for you. I believe it was at dslreports.com Voip forum, and I think I may have posted a link to it here in the past if someone is interested in finding it. |

I live in the BVI and I must say Cable and Wireless is full of crap. It is like your in prison. They charge these ridiculous fees for Internet and phone call charges and when you are trying to find away to save money they come in and try to retard you. This nonsense has to stop and something must me done to prevent ISP's from doing such nonsense. I get the feeling if the Cable and Wireless personnel or manager was not employed at Cable and Wireless they would feel the same way we're feeling. Another thing, for ADSL the speed is ridculously slow. I do not see why I should be paying $99.00 per month for service that is slower than Dial-up. It is is a rip-off and customers need to receive discounts for such nonsense. |

Hi, I'm curious, are you currently using Vonage in the BVI? I completely concur with you comments on the service. But with C&W getting a 1.30 a min to call the UK, I can see why they are threaten by Voip! |

Hi. I am using Vonage in the BVI, sort of. We got it in August last year and it worked perfectly until February this year. SInce then its been too choppy to have a conversation. I tried contacting Vonage but they have yet to respond. Anybody else had any luck? |

We have a house on the Virgin Gorda in Mahoe Bay. We have the lowest DSL service offering. We took our home Vonage box from New York with us - no luck. I changed the "Bandwidth Saver" options on Vonage to the lowest "Basic" setting. A few minutes later, our home Vonage number was working perfectly. Call quality - no problem on either end. Finally, unlimited US calls from the BVIs. About time.
