This has been an ongoing thing that is getting worse. Here is my setup:
Brand new SB5100 running 2.3.1.3 firmware, connected to Adelphia HSI 3000/256 in NW Washington State. Sb5100 goes to RT31P2, running 1.27.1 firmware. RT31P2 has 1 phone, 1 Dell A960 all in one fax/scan/copier. Laptop is in LAN port 1, running XP home as well.

Current signal levels on SB5100 are:

Adelphia has not been much help. Even said they couldnt flash me the 2.3.1.6 SB5100 firmware update.

I'm Desperate because the 5-10 periods where I hear garble and the other person hears nothing are killing my business. I'm not pissed off...I know I'm saving a ton of money...I would just like help to remedy the problem!!!!

oh, and the above ping plotter data is ICMP packets not UDP

I don't know if this will help you, but I set the QoS in my WRT54GP2 to 180K for my 2 lines (90 if you only have one) and the garbling quit.
Do you have QoS settings on the RT31P2?

It has a Voice QoS setting where if enabled you can set a QoS upstream rate. It is default at 256kb/s. This is my advertised speed for my ISP. I believe this is a cap setting. But I will try changing it.

there is also a QoS option for application based QoS where you can set specific ports as high priority.

Reducing the QoS setting seemed to help for a 5 minute call, but then all of the sudden, the garble and loss returned. I am completely stumped!

have you called adelphia to have them test your connection? that signal to noise ratio looks borderline for docsis 2.0 if I'm not mistaken. this could cause issues.

Reebok,

Adelphia says the SNR is fine. I am in the same building as Adelphia in my town, so I have the luxury of walking downstairs to chat with the local repair guys, and they dont really have anything new to try.

The one thing I do notice is that in the early morning, my downstream power is -14dB, and i have less packet problems. by the afternoon, its back down to -15 and the problems are worse.

Could this be contributing? If so, will it fix things if I can work with the guys to get to -12 to +12???

I don't know the technical aspects, but I know the cable companies try to keep it between -15 and +15, so I don't know if they'll do anything. it could simply be internet/network congestion. you may ask those guys if your hub is pretty saturated in the day.

they told me that it is not any more congested during the day than any other area or ISP. If anything, maybe a little less congested, because I am on an island in NW Washington State.
