Post subject: newbie question again?!?!?!?!?!?
Hi, I am aprox. 7 hours NEW with
Vonage
(Just got my ata today).
I do have a couple of questions.
I change my bandwith and actually 30 sounds better than 90 why?
90 sounds like a VOX system or something. I have a cable modem with 2.5mbps down and 400kps down via twcarolina.
All calls (all 8 of them ) have been clear with no drops or echos, sounds better than my POTS line!
I did not have to forward ports as my ata worked great with the cheapo router that I have (A gigafast router) but just for laughs, I did forward the ports.
That's basically all of my questions. so far it sounds great, I just hope it is not one of these service's that get's worse over time.
Also I saw packet 8 after I purchased the
Vonage
phone stuff, nice price but just seems like packe8 is a great deal but I don't know about the company. Think will stick with
Vonage
.
if anybody can answer the bandwidth question above I would be greatful.

The simple answer is that bandwidth fluctuates.
I am capable of getting 2000/384 but I don't always get it.
I had a problem with people not hearing me but I could hear them. This is when I had the bandwidth saver at 90. I set it to 30, problem gone.
I really don't believe that forwarding the ports make a difference unless you have 2 atas and a linksys router.
