I have a Motorola HS820 bluetooth headset that I use with my cell phone. I bought a cheap ($39) bluetooth dongle for my PC and can use that same headset with my softphone. (My laptop has built-in bluetooth, so I don't even need the dongle.)
Works great and makes the softphone much handier, as I can walk around (up to 30 feet from my computer) without wires connected to my head.
If you have a softphone and a bluetooth headset, you might give this a try.

So how did your softphone recognize the headset? I understand that you have a bluetooth dongle and a bluetooth headset. What did you do? Did you just set it up and windows picked it up as speakers and a microphone? I want to do the same thing: 1. Buy a dongle, 2. Get a bluetooth headset, and 3. Use it with my softphone and Voip and such. The bluetooth headset I plan on getting is the cheapest one I found, from Logitech, which by the way has some good reviews. Thanks for your help. |

I personally use a Jabra headset ($100 Best Buy) that I am very happy with. It received great reviews and the battery life is unbelievable. I had a different brand to start off with and the battery life was not long enough. |

Just spent a few hours yesterday trolling for info, then made purchase -
Headset = Logitech Mobile Freedom ($50 or less everywhere)
Bluetooth USB dongle = Targus ACB10US ($40 at Office Depot)
Worked sweet!
Plenty of warnings around the web about Windows Bluetooth implementation not supporting the bluetooth Headset profile - I followed instructions for installing the alternate (Widcomm) drivers that I downloaded from the Targus website and it worked on the first try (how often does that happen?)
Being a new bluetooth user, I wasn't sure what would happen with headset on, mobile phone on, dongle on. Apparently the headset will pair with only bluetooth source at any point in time - either the phone or the laptop. |

Jabra BT250 Wireless Headset used with the IBM Bluetooth II card built into my laptop.
They also make a BT250 with an adapter for non-bluetooth gear, but it is a little more $$

I have been told that it sounds like a really good cell phone. Not as good as a land line, but all my Vonage accounts sound like that, even the Linksys based lines.

I have been using a bluetooth headset too and I love it. But, when the headset is selected in the softphone as the audio device, The phone doesnt ring through the pc speakers. Anyone have any solution for this?

I think a better solution is a product such as this:
http://www.clipcomm.co.kr/eng/e_product/e_product_bs_v100.html
Something that lets you use your bluetooth headset through either a landline or cell connetion both at home and away. Not sure about the softphone because when you have to have your computer up to use it. When do you use a softphone where a VOIP landline or Cell phone aren't better? |
