I am having trouble with port forwarding after installing the Linksys RT(whatever) phone router. My setup looks like this:

Cable-->Linksys Phone Router--->WRT54GX---> PC's

I am trying to forward port 6889 to IP 192.168.1.109. I have it set up to do so on the WRT54GX, but it doesnt work. I gather that I also need to forward the port on the phone router, but when I go in, I can only forward to a 192.168.15.x address. When I changed the routers IP to 192.168.1.2 I could no longer access it or get an IP from it to the WRT54GX.

What am I doing wrong here? Should I just move the phone router to go behind the WRT54GX?

When I did it, I just forwarded the ports on the phone adapter to the 192.168.15.x address and it worked fine.

But the problem is that the rest of my network is 192.168.1.x, so forwarding on the phone router isnt possible. Do I really have to change all the other network addresses for this to work? Sad

The address on the rest of my network is different, too. I have the same set up you do. I'm not a network wiz. I can't tell you why something works, only what the problem was and how I corrected it.

I have not done what you are trying to do. But maybe the following will allow it to work.

The WRT54GX must have an IP address on subnet 15; this is the address which the RT31P2 should forward port 6889 to, which, in turn, will be forwarded by the WRT54GX to 192.168.1.109. I use a static IP for the Internet interface of my WRT55AG:
IP: 192.168.15.2
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Default gateway: 192.168.15.1
{You will need to type in your ISP's DNS servers}

However, the RT31P2 needs to have a static route to subnet 1 from subnet 15:
Destination LAN IP: 192.168.1.0
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.15.2
Hop count: 1
Interface: Local

You might also need to turn off Network Address Translation on the WRT54GX by changing it's Routing Operating Mode from Gateway to Router, I'm not sure. I use Router mode on my WRT55AG because I need a VPN client to work through my network; VPN can only tolerate one level of NAT according to the Vonage and Linksys websites.
