I just have cable modem --> Vonage RT31P2 router --> two PCs. Several times a day, both computers connected to the Vonage router will tell me the network cable has been unplugged, followed by another message saying the network cable is now connected at 100.0Mbps. During that 10-15 seconds, any file transfers or active connections such as VPN are terminated.

This can happen as little as once every 2-3 hours or as often as 3-4 times per hour. When it happens, my Voip dies too. And if I put my old router back in place of the Vonage router, everything is rock-solid.

---UPDATE---

I got a Vongage technician on the phone yesterday and they acted like they've never heard such a thing before. They said it must be a hardware issue and overnighted me a new RT31P2 which I will get tonight. They must have provisioned the new box before they shipped it, and disabled my phone service on the old box in the meantime. I noticed my dial tone was gone and the phone light was out, but my Internet access was still active.

Now for the INTERESTING part. Since they disabled the phone port, I have not had a single disconnect from the Internet. I've been monitoring my connection status and capturing ping results for the last 30 hours. The RT31P2 has not rebooted itself since they turned off the phone port. Not one time! My connection has been rock-solid.

Are these Linksys boxes just crap?

this is a widely discussed issue, but I don't recall anyone ever reporting that about the killed phone port. interesting.

Yeah, that's why I posted it in a new thread. Over 24 hours now since they disabled the phone port, and not a single router reset. That can't be a coincidence.

I had the same exact problem. I went round and round with their tech support. They sent out a replacement router and flashed it with the 1.26.01 firmware but nothing would work. They kept blaming my toshiba cable modem. I thought the were full of crap since i never had this problem with my other linksys router prior to getting Vonage. Luckily my brother happens to work for the local cable company and he was able to swap out my toshiba modem with a scientific atlanta cable modem. Low and behold, the problem went away. Go figure.

Well that ****, because Comcast here only uses one cable modem and it's a Toshiba.

I'll give that QoS setting a shot. I was wrong, I've got the Motorola SB5100 cable modem, so it's not a Toshiba issue.

Well, I'll be...I changed the QoS to 512 about ten hours ago, and not once has the router reset itself since then:

Ping statistics for 216.109.xxx.xxx:
Packets: Sent = 21908, Received = 21892, Lost = 16 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 32ms, Maximum = 2130ms, Average = 46ms

Frankly, I'm shocked. I'd been experiencing 2-3% PL with router reboots at least every two hours and usually much more often than that. I sure hope the problem is solved...if it is, then thanks markwi!

My QOS is set at 256 should I change it even though I have no problems?

I have the settings the way the router came from Vonage.
