I am brand new to Vonage, evaluating the service as a possible replacement for my current LEC connection. Received my Linksys (Cisco) RT3IP2 Router this past Saturday. Install was very easy and everything worked well that day with one phone directly connected to the Linksys. On Sunday I decided to run Vonage through my house wiring (disconnected the LEC line, connected Vonage to an available phone jack). I made a few calls, all was well. I then called my parents who live about 20 mins away from me. Call was fine for about 2 mins, then they could not hear me but I could still hear them. Hung up and called back, this time they couldn't hear me from the time they answered the call but I could hear them.

My questions:

Has anyone ever experienced this before ? If so, how frequently did it happen ? Was the problem resolved ? If so, what was the fix ?

I am currently working with Vonage to try to get to the root cause of the issue. I started using the phone again today. No problems so far.

My thought is that this is not a bandwidth or latency issue. With lost packets or excessive delay I would expect clipped voice and echo but not the complete loss of one of the transmission paths.

did u try running the VoipSpeedTest on this website?

It actually, *could* be a bandwidth issue : if the upload speed (offered by ur ISP) is bad, it might result in the exact scenario u r experiencing : no outgoing audio but incomming is fine.

I am not an expert on this..but there r ppl on this forum who r and might be able ot help u if u provide more details.

I'm sure that you did the house wiring correctly, but just in case:

But:

http://www.vonage.com/help_knowledgeBase_article.php?article=436

There is also the consideration of Ringer Equivalence Number (REN). The RT31P2 is set to a source REN of 5. You must add up the REN numbers on your telephones, caller ID boxes, and answering machines. You must ensure that the number does not exceed the available 5 from the adapter. If you have exceed the REN you must remove an offending telephone or device. Vonage is capable of increasing the REN is need be.

Furthermore, You must remove the telephone wiring from the your old telephone system at the Interconnection Unit Box. It may be in a closet, a storage room, garage, or basement.

Thanks for the help everyone. Seems to be working ok today, however, the router is not connected to my house wiring. I'll try that when I get home and see if the problem re-appears. I ran some speed tests a week ago with good results: ~3 meg downstream (to me) and ~800k upstream (to internet) which should be plenty. Thanks again.
