I have just installed a V system and it all works fine except for the date/time on the phone. If I set them manually, they are OK until I get an incoming call - at which point, something (I can only assume the Vonage box) resets them to 01-01-14 and an apparently random time.
I have tried to explain this to V support and get a sensible answer but they get hooked up on the time-zone, which they have reset (although I think it was already set thus) at Europe/London; they have not explained how the time itself is set or how the V box gets the time.
Can anyone throw any light on this? Also this:
I am able to address the Vonage device (made by Grandstream) by entering its IP address in my browser. When I do so, I see a window Grandstream Device Configuration and I am asked for a password. Presumably, therefore, it is possible to configure the device - maybe to set the time?? Grandstream tell me that the default password is admin but that does not work, so I assume that V have changed it; does anyone know what it is? |

This is an update to my previous post.
After many emails and phone calls, I have discovered that this is a known problem and occurs in the USA as well as here. Vonage say that they are working on it.
I have also found out that no one in the service group knew that the so-called Vonage Box had changed; it was previously a LinkSys VDV22 and is now a Grandstream HT-701. All the info on the website refers to the old box - no one has bothered to update it. It is also evident that the new box was not properly tested.
The problem seems to be with the way that the box interprets the time-zone and adjusts the phone accordingly (most modern DECT phones can be configured to have the date/time set by an outside agency). In the HT-701, you can set the time-zone in the same way as in, for example, Windows - GMT (or UTC) London Dublin Lisbon etc - or with a self-defined string: MTZ+0MDT-1,M3.5.0/01:00,M10.5.0 is the equivalent of GMT, for example. Vonage have chosen to use the latter - heaven knows why, when they could just choose GMT. Anyway, it doesn't work and they don't seem to know why not.
You can change the configuration but it gets reset by the Vonage server eventually, so that doesn't help.
I found out that the password to get into the config is 123; from there, you can look at and change the Basic Settings (which include the time-zone but you need another password for the Advanced settings and I haven't found that out (it is not admin). |
