Post subject: Cisco ATA-186 and ARP Requests
Hello,
I'm "sniffing" my LAN with Ethereal and notice the Cisco ATA-186 is sending out an ARP broadcast every 5 seconds. Basically it is asking "Who has 192.168.0.6?" and is saying to "Tell 192.168.0.6" And of course my ATA-186 has the address of 192.168.0.6.
This just goes on and on and on...every 5 seconds. Ethereal has been running for 15 minutes, and sure enough, every 5 seconds there is a broadcast from the ATA-186. What gives?
Thanks,
Jim

I don't know an answer, but I hate to see you not getting any response at all. I would suggest that if you are concerned about it you should contact
Vonage
. They may have some kind of answer for you.

My ATA 186 shows the same behavior. It was doing ARP broadcasts every ten seconds earlier this week (up from five). Just checked it and it's back to every five.
The current firmware is ata18x-v2-16-2-030829a
Any info from
Vonage
on this? Can't be normal behavior and I've got packet captures showing it didn't use to do this.

I too am getting this problem with my Cisco ATA-186.
It is currently also refusing to register with my SIP provider (not
Vonage
) which it used to do okay. It sends the first REGISTER request, receives a 401 Unauthorized. It then resends the original REGISTER request. Does anyone else have this as well?
I say it receives the response but I am not sure. It depends where I connect my computer on my network. One arrangement allows me to see packets sent from the ATA-186 and some packets sent back. Another arrangement allows me to see packets sent back but not all the ones sent. It seems to depend how long the packets are.
My ATA-186 is not locked. I have tried a factory reset and reentering all the configuration data. No change. I have tried re-updating the firmware (using the TFTP server provided by iConnnectHere) and that doesn't affect anything either. The firmware had already been updated to version v2.16.1 ata18x (Build 030709a) so I suspect the update was aborted. How did you get version v2.16.2?
