PostPosted: Mon Sep 01, 2003 11:43 am    Post subject: Strange call that consisted of non-stop beeping Reply with quote Back to top

Last night, at three in the morning, I got a call that came up as anonymous/out of area and when I answered--it was just beeping that happened every two seconds or so and never stopped. I know what an incoming fax call sounds like and it wasn't that. Didn't think much of it, but then at SIX in the morning, my second line (also a Vonage) also got a call with this same beeping noise.

I wouldn't think this was something with Vonage except that it happened to BOTH my incoming lines at a very odd hour. Did anyone else experience this??? If so, do you have any idea what this was or what caused it??? Thanks.

I couldn't tell you what the calls are or where they're coming from but I've gotten those calls sporadically for over a couple of years now on my regular phone line, (I just ordered Vonage) so it can't be a Vonage problem. Once, at 5am my caller id read the number as "123-456-7890" but it's usually anonymous. It's so frustrating because I've called the phone company and since the caller id doesn't detect a real phone number, you can't block it. The phone company told me to change my number if I wanted the calls to stop. Mad

It's most likely a fax machine trying to fax you. I get these too. The beep is to let the fax machine on the other know its a fax call and as soon as a beep responds it begins to negotiate a signal.

Sometimes if you hang up as well, they will continue to call. It ****, but the only thing to do is take the phone off the hook and pray.

Idea I have gotten those types of calls 2 times now on Vonage, the thing is that NO ONE has my number yet (only had it for 2 weeks). It sound like a fax...beep.........beep......and so on.
Also I have experiance that other have by having people NOT be able to hear me and I can hear them. This just started on monday of this week.
I beleive it is with Vonage. I am on time warner (earthlink) here in NC and I have very good ping times and 3mbps + down and 350-400kbps UP speed.
Any ideas about this? This is a Vonage problem, so why don't Vonage correct this?
also got a email about 4 minutes ago about the rate increase of .50 CENTS. The email is a lie actually if you look at it. They "claim" lower rates, but it is HIGHER per month. That is what I call FALSE ADVERTISING and that my friends is a agains the law!

Not to sound an alarm here, but I got one the other morning at 5:15, I was not amused.

This has never happened to me in the past only after switching to Vonage as my primary line.

Just wanted to update and say that I STILL get these calls every once and awhile--also it is usually in the middle of the night--between one and six in the morning...

It is just the non-stop beeping. Oddly though, I do have two Vonage lines and the beeping calls mainly just come on the one line every two weeks or so. Thankfully, it is on the line I do not keep in my bedroom, but I will get the beeping call once every couple of month or so on that line too.

All I can say is that I never had this problem before Vonage and since I see other people on this board reporting the same thing... I sort of have to think it most be Vonage related...

Also, it is NOT a fax call trying to get through. This is definitely something else...

Hi -- just wanted to let you know that I'm using the good old Verizon long distance/ local calling. I get these "beep---beep---beep" calls too. It's nervewracking!

I'm pretty sure that's telemarketers trying to send faxes. At least, it's the same sound you hear if someone's trying to send a fax to a telephone line... Unfortunately, even though it's illegal for telemarketers to send pitches via fax (imagine if I DID have a fax, the quantity of paper that would have been wasted), there's no way, I think, to stop it. Ugh!

Hi,
Im using BT in the uk - and I also get these odd calls with intermittent beeping. Although mine are mainly around 2.30 in the afternoon, and i get three or four in a row - mine are also from a witheld number. BT haven't got a clue - they never have, and my number has been changed three times! I've given up now and let the answer machine get it after the 1st call. It does however ring off after six beeps.....But if anyone finds out pls let me know!
