You know Dan, this just got me to thinking if this was something that I should be concerned about. Then I realized that my concerns might be unwarranted. While my cable internet access is through Time Warner Cable in North Carolina, my ISP is Earthlink. Earthlink has a Broadband phone service that is powered by Vonage. I think it would be safe to say that I don't think TWC would crazy enough to block Vonage because they would be in essence blocking one of their customers services ( Earthlink ). Boy, could you see the legal battle in that....

For now I feel better.

BTW, one full month of service and things for the most part have been great. I have had two weekends in a row where the internet service has gone out, interferring with the phone service. I can't complain about Vonage.

One more month of Bellsouth and they can kiss my.... oops...I can't say that here

I truly believe something is going on. I live on this forum. The nature and vast quantity of ISP related service issues effecting Vonage service over the past 4 weeks is astounding. I expected increase traffic during this time as a mirror to the marketing push, and other things I expected have come true. But I did not expect this.

The revelation that certain ISP's are blocking Vonage explains what has been happening on this forum.

Then why does CableAmerica (my ISP) is placing TV adds for Vonage??? This makes no sense. Why are they pushing the product to their existing cable customers if this is going to affect them in a negative way?

Because it DOES affect them negatively. I just switched over to Cox network a few minutes ago. I did sign up for their Digital Phone also.

I will keep Vonage for a while and compare quality. I shall report back to you on this.

Vonage's marketing campaign is a national one. They are buying network feeds. I do not think they are specifically running ads on your cable company.

I think the un-named ISP's are easy to figure out if you read here at all. Yours is not one that comes to mind.

Ok, we are clearly talk about two totally different things and you are assuming (or suggesting) that your ISP is one of the ISP's that may be blocking Vonage service.

I have no reason to believe that your ISP is blocking Vonage service.

Now doesn't everybody wish that we had REAL choice when it comes to broadband? These #@*&%^ companies do this because THEY CAN (at least for now). The point is, where else are you going to go??? If you can only get DSL from your LEC and cable is not available, you're pretty much screwed. Vice versa for cable.

Some LECs allow third party companies to provide DSL and the same holds true for cable, but the choice is very limited, if at all. Wouldn't it be nice if you had a real choice, like you did beginning in the early 90s with long distance?

I wish there was real choice like that. If there was, then these companies would be doing anything to win you over. I used to get $50 - $100 checks from AT&T trying to convince me to switch. With competition, it brings more to the consumer, while at the same time prevents companies from bullying us.

Voip is the new revolution, and you can expect resistance, especially from the LECs who will soon loose BILLIONS.

You know, if companies such as Verizon would sell Voip plans at $25, instead of $35, they MIGHT have a chance. If they would sell you DATA-ONLY DSL plus your Voip, they might have a chance. But they WILL NOT. They require you to keep your POTS line, pay for inflated Voip and maintain their DSL. It hardle makes financial sense, and I can't imagine enybody would go for such a plan.

Ok, we are clearly talk about two totally different things and you are assuming (or suggesting) that your ISP is one of the ISP's that may be blocking Vonage service.

I have no reason to believe that your ISP is blocking Vonage service.


I misunderstood your previous post. I'm with you on this one; I don't see what my ISP would benefit from blocking Vonage - they depend on it.
