Last thursday many exchanges rang fast busy. I was unable to place outgoing calls even to customer service. VM was down at the same time.

But for the price I really can't complain. I have used the phone for hours on end without issue and I think that the growing pains will quickly resolve themselves. If I dropped phone companies for screwing up I would have no options left. I have not had 1 phone company get everything correct ( billing, service, price ). At least with Vonage you have a company that is for the most part honest and wants to retain customers.

I would keep Vonage and get a cell phone if I were in your position.

Being on hold time and time again for service issues is becoming my hobby. A dull one at that.

For weeks now I haven't received any calls on my voange phone... it just doesnt ring. The phone works fine in a 'real' phone socket, but no dice in the Vonage ATA thingo. Of course its all my fault...

Oh and now I can't seem to make overseas calls...

Vonage you are starting to suck pretty hard.
What are you doing about it.

The last week I have been experiencing multiple dropped calls. Some people tald me that they never could get through - they heard a total silence but when I checked my mail box I heard them talking and waiting for an answering mashine. Funny - heard recorded messages but they never heard any greeting message.

For several days I can receve inccoming calls and here my friend in perfect conditin while they hear nothing!!! Thanks God it doesn't happend to often.
And I have to say that I am pretty good in netwworking - everything has been set up as it's suppose to be.

My verdict - the price is to high for given service.

I suppose the real issue is how Vonage markets their service. I, personally use it because I can take the ATA with me anywhere there is broadband and be connected. This is an important issue for me. Now, voicemail and such can be frustrating, but the features such as network availability forwarding, call transfer and standard forwarding make it all a non-issue for me. I suppose if Vonage would market their service less as a home/business line replacement and more of the service it is (simply SIP telephony) with some pretty nifty features to boot, then I think there would be a lot less unhappy customers.

Also, note that the dropped calls could be happening anywhere along the whole ATA to PSTN line. Most calls get dropped because of a DHCP change of IP... Not Vonage's fault, but something they may want to find a workaround for. Some calls get dropped simply because of network congestion. I've never seen Vonage advertise perfect service, so I've not expected it.

I do think Vonage should offer more of a price-level variety for plans, but so far the price has been worth it for me.

Evil or Very Mad

Motorola device only does 110 - 120v compared to the ATA 186 that has power 220 - 240v. I think the change from Cisco ATA is bad idea.

Huh? The VT1005 I have is rated at 100-220 volts, 50-60Hz.

I know that you aren't supposed to rant on this site, so I won't. But I would like to offer some constructive criticism for Vonage. I signed up for Vonage, received the equipment, and installed it without any problems. After a month or so, it just stopped working. Nothing I did would make it work. After a couple of months, I decided to just disconnect. After waiting to talk to someone forever, and after being disconnected serveral times, I finally got the news that it would cost me over $40 to disconnect. It is true that you can disconnect at any time, but they don't tell you that you have to pay to disconnect.

Many people have great luck with Vonage. But if you don't, it is extremely difficult to disconnect. If you have problems and decide to disconnect, you will not get credit for months that you service did not work and you will have to pay to disconnect.

Think twice before you try Vonage. You will either love it, or you will hate it. I don't think there is anything in between.

For faxes, Data on Call's UniFax provides a great option.

Toll-free number and faxes come in to your web in-box as a PDF. You can fax out PDFs from your desktop too. A scanner is helpful, but not required.

Plus. its cheaper since you only print what you have to print.
