PostPosted: Mon Feb 14, 2005 9:04 am    Post subject: Lost dial tone, tech support 'too busy', 12hrs no callback Reply with quote Back to top

I am a Vonage user since December. I lost dialtone yesterday at around 11:45am. I called tech support and waited 25mins on hold then had to leave the house with no answer. I then called tech support at 9pm and waited on hold for 22mins when an agent answered the phone asking for my details so that a tech support agent could call me back. She said she was not in tech support but was taking messages for them as they were 'too busy'. She said she could make no guarantees but I could expect a call within an hour and a half. It is almost 12hrs later and I have not heard from anyone yet.

I manage several servers and run a computer consulting business so I know that my internet connection is up (speedtest looks good), I have reset my cable modem and Linksys (waiting 5 mins) at least 8 times. The router's status page says phone lines one and two "Registration Status" are "offline".

I have also requested support via email with no response, and the complete lack of communication with my phone provider is very discouraging. It is now 7mins until 9am on Monday morning and the phone line my clients call me on is completely dead and I don't know how to get it fixed.

My calls are going straight to voicemail making me look very unprofessional. I am in the service business and if my customers call me with a problem I need to take care of it as soon as possible. (get the hint, Vonage?) If tech support is nonexistent when you have a problem this big I'm afraid I cannot afford to have Voip service because of the business I will lose while it is down.

Has anyone else been left hanging like this?

I have the same customer service issues. I've yet to EVER be called back when they take my information and say they will. It's probably just to get you off their back.

That being said, if your phone is that important to your business, you should look into getting a soft phone or forwarding your number to a cell phone, perhaps. My soft phone works even when my other phone won't.

The problem simply is, where is the support?

I called right now (26hrs since the problem started), went through the phone tree to 'no dialtone' and got a busy signal. A busy signal?!?!

How am I to proceed when there is no one there to help me with my problem?

I know this doesn't fix the problem, but have you considered setting up your Network Availability Number? If you're that concerned about your customers going straight to voicemail, this is something you should probably do. When you have it setup, your calls will be redirected to another number of your choice (cell phone, landline, etc.) any time your phone service is down (Vonage problems, internet down, etc.). It's totally invisible to the person that's calling you. I have mine setup to go to my cell phone. You could also turn on the regular call forwarding until the problem gets fixed. All this can be done by logging in to your account on the Vonage web site and click on Features. Just a suggestion to try and help you out until your problem gets fixed.

I tried anything relevant in the help section, including the adapter reboot (8+ times, as noted on my first message) and the (duh) is my phone plugged in properly.

I'm on hold again, going on 2 days of no phone service.

I couldn't be more disappointed that there is no one at Vonage that seems to be able to answer my call.

It turns out that while I sent one email and made two phone calls to warn Vonage that I would be returning their replacement router instead of keeping it (I was trying to improve the noise problem), they screwed up and removed my router's MAC address in favor of the one that was returned.

I have not had phone service for 3 days now thanks to their screwup. I have spent a total of 3 hours on hold trying to get to the bottom of the problem. I was assured the problem would be fixed this morning but I am on hold again at almost 8pm hoping to beg someone to fix this. A simple phone call 30mins after the problem started should have resolved the mixed up MAC address problem that they created.

The issue is simple, Vonage appears completely unprepared to handle tech support in a timely fashion.
