I have had Vonage about 6 months now. I live in Baltimore County, MD. We have had no problems the Vonage service worked great until about 3 weeks ago. Suddenly I am having horrific issues. I have spoke to a few work colleagues and they are experiencing similar issues.

The issues are:

- Dropped calls
- Bad quality with per son being called not being able to hear me.

At the same time Comcast is making a show of increasing their bandwidth and for an additional $10 a month you can really get a bump. It all seems very suspicious. The timing of the issues seems just too coordinated. I would be interested in hearing if anyone else in the Baltimore County area is experiencing similar issues.

http://faq.comcast.net/faq/answer.jsp?name=18226&cat=Services&subcategory=1 This site shows all of the locations that have all ready received the speed updates. Maryland has all ready been completed according to this chart. Have you powercycled your modem/router since January 26th? Comcast may still have more work to do (they are also in the process of moving ex attbi.com sites to Bedrock as well) in your area.

It could be your cable modem. A couple of weeks ago comcast upgraded the speed in my area. Began seeing dropped internet connections for 5-10 seconds at a time. Tried all the power cycling bs and it didn't do a thing for me. Turns out the older modem i had didn't play nice with the new service. I had the old motorola shark fin model. Tech came out and give me a new motorola 5100 and said they have been seeing lots of these issue because of the speed upgrade.

Just so you know, i called comcast and they first said it was my networking because they were getting a signal from the modem. I then traded the modem in at a local comcast store and the new modem (newer motorola) didn't work at all so they sent out the tech who said the store shouldn't have been given out that modem either. Anyway, everything is great now with the motorola .

Thanks for the info. That could be the issue. I have had my modem for 5 years since 99 infact. I will contact Comcast tech support today. Infact I started having issues right about the time Comcast started doing the upgrades

See if you can talk them into giving you the Motorola SB5100. I've had mine for a year and love it. The Toshiba's don't work that well, in my experience. When I first got the service, they gave me a beat up old Toshiba and when my connection kept dropping, I got a new SB5100.

My Vonage works great with it and I'm loving the 6000/768 tier of speed I'm in now. I can have all 4 Voip devices running with no drop out or problems!

I will try and get a Motorola SB5100. In addition to the4 new modem how do you ahve your network configured. Are you doing any QOS vis your router (I have a linksys WRT54GS). My config is as follows:

Cable Modem -> Vonage Router -> WRT54GS -> PC's

The problem I run into now is that when I talk and surf I lose quality on the phone. By the way did you pay the additional $10 per month to get the 768k up or is now standard from Comcast.

Yes, I pay the $10 extra for the gold tier of service to get the 6meg download. As to my network setup, I joined the Sveasoft supporters and have the WRT54GS router with the Sveasoft Alchemy firmware loaded. It provides better QOS than many others plus lets me dramatically increase the wireless range of the WRT54GS. I have this setup:

Cable Modem --> WRT54GS --> PC's and Vonage & Other ATA's.

Comcast or ? Don't guess. Run the speed test and the tweak test at:
http://www.dslreports.com
The tests are found at the "Tests+Tools" link. I thought I was having a slowdown from Comcast, but these tests showed otherwise. Conjecture gets you nowhere.

i had similar issues but comcast then changed my 5 year old modem for their newest motorola 5120 and it seems to work much better now. the new modems support their faster network better and are firmware upgradeable... whereas the old ones weren't.

I am having the same problems. I have only had Vonage for a week but am having terrible call quality with garbled audio, echo and some dropped calls. I just recently upgraded to the 6meg/768k plan(gold tier) from Comcast. There is definitely something to this. I have heard of multiple comcast/vonage users having trouble since the speed upgrades.
