This has happend to me about three times in the last few days... 1. I am connected to the internet. 2. The phone spells out an IP when I use 80# 3. But there is no dial tone. 4. If I call my number from my cellphone, it goes to Vonage voicemail directly. 5. I tried <my CTA IP>/refresh from my browser and it says "ok".
Tried calling customer service 5 times, waited about 10-12 minutes each time and then got the machine. No one is returning calls and I am not sure if I can rely on the Vonage service anymore.
By the way after about 4-6 hours, the dial tone comes back on it's own. Anybody has any clue as to what is happening.
Thanks in advance. |

I think it has less to do about Vonage and more to do with the Sobig virus and how your ISP is handling it. |

Well... got a phone call from Vonage customer service today afternoon (a rare event!). They admitted that they were having "some hardware issues" last evening and said that the outage was a result of that. They would not comment on the previous occurrences of this problem.
Regarding the SOBIG virus... I guess that's a possibility, my ISP is Time Warner Cable/RoadRunner in NY Capital District. I have not experienced any problems with my ISP mail though.
As long as the outage does not happen again, I am happy. But the customer service at Vonage leaves a LOT to be desired... no doubt about that! |

I don't mind technical difficulties, but I would like to be informed on the web site of such occurences. This does not make me a real happy customer right now.
Just want information, not a dead dial tone and an indifferent service department! |

I can not hold on to dial tone for more than 3 hours at a time. I have to reset my Ethernet router to get it back again.
I called customer service 5 times - got through twice after over 15 minutes. They advised me to modify the configuration on my ehternet router to allow port forwarding and set up my ATA on the DMZ.
They claim there is a keepalive message that might be blocked using a firewall or NAT router. I have completely opened up the router for the ATA and still not different.
Good concept - bad implementation.
Additionally - about every 3 phone calls that go over 3 minutes, I get dead air or one way voice.
If it doesnt last more than 5 seconds I will put up with it, however - not sure I will much longer.
- on the fence |
