I am noticing some "bugs" with simulring call forwarding...

I have simulring set up so that calls ring to my cell phone and my home Vonage line. I have voicemail set to pick up after 20 seconds on my Vonage line.

1. Even after I pick up my home phone to answer a call, sometimes my cell will continue ringing, even long after the call was picked up. This is sporadic, there is no rhyme or reason that I can figure out as to why this happens.

2. Call waiting. If I am on my Vonage line, and an incoming call comes in, sometimes my call waiting will not beep. Instead, the call will go directly to voicemail (either on my Vonage line or on my cell phone). Again, no rhyme or reason I can fathom.

3. For about 1 in 5 calls that I receive, if I don't answer, my cell phone's voicemail will pick up. 4 out of 5 times Vonage gets it. I don't really understand why Vonage isn't picking it up all the time. My cell phone won't answer voicemail for 30 seconds, yet my Vonage line is set to answer after 20 seconds?

4. I know this is abnormal, but if I call my house from my cell phone it will go immediately to Vonage voicemail. Vonage will ring maybe once.

I'm still experimenting with this. Does anybody else have any experience with simulring? Are my issues normal? Any ideas on fixes? I think I will have more issues with simulring, I will try to document them and find reasons for this behaviour.

Thanks.

I have my Vonage set to SimulRing with my POTS line at home. It almost always continues to ring my home phone a few seconds after I have actually answered and begun a conversation on the Vonage.

Sometimes my cell will stop ringing immediately, sometimes it will continue ringing for up to 15 seconds or so. Quite long...

Anyway, it seems a bit buggy. I used to manually forward calls to my cell before I'd leave the house, and then turn that off when I got home. I was hoping with simulring I wouldn't have to do that...

And since the only way to adjust call forwarding (that I know of) with Vonage is the web interface...it just seems like too much work to do everytime before I leave. (I used to have the call forwarding code set up as a speed dial.)

Setting call forwarding to ring my Vonage line for, say, 20 seconds before switching to my cell would be okay if so many people didn't hang up due to waiting so long...

I have found simulring and voice mail to be very buggy.

People regularly tell me that they call my Vonage number and that it rings and rings and rings. No voicemail, no forward. Sometimes it rings once (on both cel and Vonage) sometimes, 5 times.

I too am curious if anyone can explain the inconsistancy. The ringing with no forwarding or voicemail is the main reason I don't recommend the service.

I too have a Vonage number set to simulring on my POTS line at home. It's never worked; goes directly to voice mail when called and never rings the POTS line.

I spent 45 mins. on hold with Vonage (never spoke to a human) before giving up and sending an email to support.... That was a month ago. No reply.

When I first signed up with Vonage 5 months ago I had a setup question that was answered quickly and intelligently by a support rep via email. I was impressed. Now it seems customer support is completely nonexistent. But that's another topic...

Yes, simulring is buggy.

did you have an actual phone on your Vonage line that worked? I found out that if the network is down, or if you have no phone hooked up to the Vonage adapter, then simulring will go directly to voicemail.

This also makes me wary of simulring: The network backup number will not work if you have call forwarding on, instead your call forwarding settings will be used. And if you are using simulring, then you won't get any calls...they'll just go straight to Vonage voicemail if the network is down. Or worse if voicemail is also down...

The only issue I have is I'd like to have simul ring but be able to call my Vonage phone from my cell phone without having it forward immediately to voicemail/busy signal!

I have that same problem too. It will ring the Vonage line once and then go right to voicemail.
