Post subject: Modem Fax
I want to be able to hook up a 56k modem to use my computer as a fax when I need to fax something. I don't want a seperate line or anything like that. I just want to make sure that the modem will work ok through the
vonage
phone line. Has anyone tried this? Thanks for the help in advance.

There are several discussions about fax issues. Please search to find them.
In brief, some people are using
Vonage
with fax machines without problems, and others cannot get it to work. It seems to work with some hardware and not other hardware. The best thing to do is look at your search results to see what works and doesn't.
If you purchase the second special fax line, it is set up to have the best chance of working with a fax modem -- but some people still can't get their fax machines to work with it.
If you just want to use your
Vonage
voice line, you need to add *99 at the begining of your modem string and set the fax modem to 9600 baud. That works for a lot of people, but not all.
Short answer is that faxing does not work for everyone with
Vonage
and seems to be hardware specific.
Hope you find what you need.
