Phone was working perfectly. We lost power for 24 hours Thurday-Friday. Cable/Broadband is fine but while the phone is receiving power (it lights up when turned on) there is no dial tone and there is no indication on the router that phone is active.

I tried unplugging everything and turning off the computer for several hours, but still no luck.

You might want to try a reset, but I am not an expert -- so try this at your own risk.

If you choose to do that, here's how:

1. Turn off the RT31P2 adapter and let it sit for five minutes.

2. While waiting, unplug all phone, computer and other device cables going into the adapter except the power cord. (If you are using a dongle, shorted phone cord or old phone in phone port #2 to reduce the background hum, remove that too.)

3. Turn the adapter back on.

4. Find the reset button on the back of the adapter. Depress it and hold it in for 15 seconds. (The manual says 5 seconds, but techs have said 15.) Then release it.

5. Turn off the adapter.

6. Plug back in all the cables you disconnected. Be sure the phone cable is plugged into the correct port, which is usually phone #1.

7. Turn the adapter back on and WAIT for at least 5 minutes before doing anything. If you see a lot of blinking green lights during this period, that may mean that the adapter is receiving the current firmware upgrade to 1.27.01. Don't disturb it in anyway while the lights are blinking as that could cause the the firmware update to fail -- or worse, it could fry your adapter.

8. After this period, hopefully you will have three solid green indicator lights lit: power, phone #1 and Internet.

Then test the system to see if you have dial tone and can make a call. Also test your computer access to the Internet.
