Today while talking with a friend I was told of lot's of static and total dropouts on the receiving POTS or cell phone, I did not hear it. But I had to call a few times because of "dead line" hang ups, yet I plainly heard the other end. Additionally I notice many times when we are both speaking that everything just goes silent or dead.

Has anyone else noticed this in the past few days and is there any way to get this fixed?

QOS 76% (varies from 39% to 85%)

MaxPause 50 ms (sometimes higher or lower)

That QoS doesn't look to promising. Try downloading and running pingplotter for at least 4-6 hrs. and see what it shows for packet loss there. Who's your ISP and what's your network setup?

Simple setup using Optonline.net for my ISP
Cable Modem--> Rt31P2 router/phone interface--> Laptop no other device connected to router

Ran PingPlotter for a short while and it appears the problem is beyond my ISP at ABOVE.NET Any suggestions on fixing this would be appreciated.

I use optonline also, and I had no problems on either a phone hooked to an adapter or on a softphone yesterday. I don't think the problem was with optonline. It was probably downstream.

I agree that the problem is downstream from Optonline, however it must be resolved for me to continue with Vonage or any Voip carrier.

Swithcing from high voice quality to medium seems to have eliminated the problem for now. I was told when using normal voice quality it sounds like I'm in a cave.

Pardon me for replying to my own posts, however I stumbled on to something that may be useful to others with voice quality issues with the RT31P2.

With my latest settings I'm told I sound like I'm next door and I've not experienced any drops or static, at least as so far. This is working for me your experience may vary.

Settings:
In RT31P2 administration --> Applications and Gaming --> Qos --> set Enable Auto detect --> Save Settings (the router will reboot)
(My device was set at fixed 256 which according to the Linksys manual is not the default. I have no idea how it was changed)

On Vonage website
log on to your account --> features --> Bandwidth Saver --> Configure --> 90kbs --> submit

and I hope that works great for you from now on. but the main problem people will run in to is that auto detect was removed in firmware 1.27.01. now you have to either disable voice qos or find a number that works. 512 works well for markwi who was having router disconnect issues, so who knows, maybe it will work in a case like this also.

Well that *S*U*C*K*S*, I'm on 1.26 and was not aware of the latest *features*.

Yesterday I tried and failed on a local 1.27 update from the download. Thank you for the information on setting Qos. Should I be stealth updated by Vonage in the future I reset the Qos to manual 512 and it sounds great on my tests.
