ISP: Comcast.

Surfboard Cable modem.
Ethernet to RT31P2 Phone Box.
Ethernet from RT to WRK54G Wireless Router.
Ethernet from WRK to PC, and Laptop on Wireless.
Uniden Phone plugged into phone box.

Modem lights normal.
WRK lights normal.
RT has Power light, Ethernet 1 Channel light, Phone 1 light, and Internet light flashing activity.

I spoke with support initially for installation, and haven't been able to get through to them since that first day. The boxes are hooked up as he instructed. No configuration of any equipment was done, he said it was unnecessary.

The phone rings for incoming calls and places outgoing calls. Sound quality is fine. Usually my voice is heard for about 30 seconds then they can't hear me. I can hear them. Sometimes they can't hear me from the start.

Any suggestions?

OK, from your description it does not appear that the problem is with your set up or with your Vonage account settings. That eliminates a lot.

It sounds like the problem is on your uplink connection somewhere.

Before we speculate about why this is happening, we need some diagnostics. First run the Voip Speed Test on the left panel of these forums. Then please go to http://www.dslreports.com/tools and run the standard tests there and report all your results (copy/paste) here.

While you're waiting for the results of your dslreports tests, you might want to search these forums for the keyword "Comcast." You may find some interesting posts from other Comcast users with problems like the one you're experiencing. I don't use Comcast, so I can't comment about it.

Those results look quite good. So we now need to see the results from the tests at dslreports.

You're narrowing the problem fast.

It's going to be a bit. I don't know which ones you want.

Here is the tweak test.

1. Your Tweakable Settings:
Receive Window (RWIN): 65535
Window Scaling: off
Path MTU Discovery: ON
RFC1323 Window Scaling: OFF
RFC1323 Time Stamping: OFF
Selective Acks: ON
MSS requested: 1460
TTL: unknown
TTL remaining: 116

2. Test 146000 byte download
Actual data bytes sent: 146000
Actual data packets: 100
Max packet sent (MTU): 1500
Max packet recd (MTU): 1500
Retransmitted data packets: 0
sacks you sent: 0
pushed data pkts: 5
data transmit time: 0.218 secs
our max idletime: 69.0 ms
transfer rate: 239614 bytes/sec
transfer rate: 1916 kbits/sec
This is not a speed test!
transfer efficiency: 100%
3. ICMP (ping) check
Trial ping gave errors: Time Exceeded

Notes and recommendations:
RWIN is in range
Looking good

Notes and recommendations:
Good data stream (no/few rexmits)

Do I need the line packet loss test? I tried to take it but it said I'm not pingable, whatever that means.

Yes, that is very likely where the problem is occuring.

Try this. Go into the config screen on your Vonage adapter and select the Security tab. Then disable the setting for "Block Anonymous Internet Requests." That might make your router pingable.

You should re-enable that filter after this test is finished.

Hope that helps get the test to work.

You'll need to plug a laptop or PC directly into one of the ethernet ports on the adapter. Then point your browser to http://192.168.15.1. Leave the username blank and use "admin" as the password. That should get you in.

For now, please don't change anything other than the setting I mentioned. Let's not make our diagnostic problem more complex. Lol
