I have a dial tone but cannot connect to anything. I get the fast busy signal. When I try to call my Vonage number I get "this number is not in service".

I have roadrunner cable -> Toshiba PCX2500 modem -> Lynksys RT31P2

It's been working flawlessly for the week I've had it so I made the request to transfer my Qwest number to Vonage this morning. Now feeling like a chump.

I've powered off the modem and the ATA. Then back on again. Still get a nice dial tone but can't dial out or receive calls.

Oh yeah, I also have the newest firmware. v1.27.01


I would VERY much appreciate any suggestions.

The problem may be an internet or network congestion problem. See: http://www.vonage-forum.com/ftopic2735.html.

Before you start tinkering with your local equipment and set up, you might just let it rest a while to see if it corrects itself. I'm the kind of person who often makes matters worse by being impatient and starts changing my local stuff, only to find out later it was not a local problem. You may be more disciplined and patient. Lol

Hope it starts working for you again soon.

OK Now I'm frustrated. I finally tried the Vonage support number. About 35 minutes on hold... service tech had me recycle a few times... no improvement. Said he couldn't see me on the server... Then he had me reset the ATA to factory defaults... No dial tone anymore, getting worse... and the icing on the cake.... I get disconnected from Mr. No-help...

Now I'm worse off than before (no dial tone) and I wasted an hour. I am going to try to revoke my POTS number transfer. I can't have this happen.

If you haven't decided to give up on Vonage, you could send PM's to ssantana and vonagebest, two senior technicians at Vonage who watch these forums on their own time and offer help. They have fixed a lot of problems for people here -- and they seem to know much more than most of the typical first-level techs you get when you call CS.

when you were getting the fast busy could you connect to voice mail or did you try?
when you go to http://192.168.15.1 what do you have under Status?

OK guys... Since I bashed the Vonage tech support guy a little; I'm going be fair here and say what I think happened:

I think my problem was all caused by me. Like I said above I requested my POTS number transfer in the morning. It was after that I couldn't dial out. I believe something to do with my number change was sent down to my ATA and it did a reset.

Now here's where I screwed myself up: I had an off the hook phone plugged into the phone2 jack (to rid background noise). I've since read in another thread here that you don't want that plugged in during a reset.

In the course of many ATA reboots, I unplugged that second line. It was shortly after that when everything worked. I'm mostly guessing here, but I'd be willing to bet that's what happened. I'm posting this in the hopes it will help someone else out.
