As stated in one of my previous posts I did cancel my service with Vonage because of their inability to manage their third party LNP agent. I did move to Callvantage and within 7 days they were able to grab my number and transfer it from Verizon. When I was with Vonage the request was submitted Sept. 7, 2005 and I fired Vonage March 25, 2005 due to their inability to transfer my number and not get a reason from Paetec as to why they could not transfer my number.

I too grew very tired of paying Verizon which was more than 24.95 per month than Vonage was crediting me so saving money on my bill with Vonage was never a reality.

It truly is unfortunate that I had to leave Vonage but they don't have their acts together when it comes to escalations and dealing with anything that goes outside of their expected results. In this case since Vonage is not a phone company and not regulated, this is where they are exposed. AT&T excels in this area and in my case, voice quality and wider calling area (Puerto Rico and some other Caribbean islands are included) makes the extra 5 bucks per month worth it.

Bottom line is even threatening to leave Vonage won't get you anywhere so if having your number transferred means that much to you, you may have to consider a "real" phone company to transfer your number in order to be successful. In my case AT&T made it painless to complete. There have been many people who have been successful and your mileage may vary.

Good luck . I have been waiting since Nov 5, 2004 for # transfer. Have a log of about 25 messages back and forth. It's a comedy of errors. Can't get anyone with horsepower from Vonage to call me. Even asked to get my money back and return modem. Good idea without leadership.

I have been waiting since march 18 for my number to get ported. THen on march 30 my verizon line went dead, but no cals would come into the Vonage phone. after calling both companies, Vonage said that they have not gotten a request back from verizon and verizon states that they released the number on march 22. so now am i in this limbo where no one can call my old number, they get the disconnected line message. a question i have now is if this does not get done by the end of this week which is what i am giving them, what would i have to do to transfer service either back to verizon or maybe at&t and still keep my number.

thanks

LOA sent 2/20
Tentative transfer 3/22
Carrier approved 4/6
Transfer date 4/7

...and the transfer happened about two hours ago, near as I can tell. But the promised "immediate email" has not yet arrived.

I am SO GLAD to finally be able to tell Verizon to, "Kiss my rosy red uhhhh... cheeks GOODBYE!"

So you're saying you started your port on March 18th (a Friday)and FOUR DAYS LATER (the following Tuesday), on the 22nd Verizon released the number ? Sounds highly improbable. Get the PON (purchase order number) from Verizon that told them to release the number to Vonage's carrier. Have THEM (Verizon) tell you who the carrier was. Give that info to Vonage. 12 days start to finish sounds a little fishy (too fast) to me but stranger things have happened. Are you sure you didn't call Verizon and tell them to cancel your service right after you started your transfer with Vonage?
