At the end of February, I got the state public service commission involved with the first transfer initiated in November. While I was going to the effort, I filed an additional complaint for the second number. Within days, both LNPs were processed.

Verizon blamed XO (Vonage's local partner carrier) and XO blamed Verizon. So who knows-- but it's proof that LNPs CAN be done very quickly when there is a "reason" to make it happen, such as the PSC breathing down their neck.

My LNP went better than the horror stories had led me to believe:

July 6, 2006 Awaiting Letter of Authorization
July 6, 2006 Letter of Authorization (LOA) Received
July 6, 2006 Letter of Authorization (LOA) Accepted
July 6, 2006 Transfer Sent to Carrier
July 18, 2006 Carrier Approved Transfer
July 19, 2006 Completed LNP Transfer

The only hitch was an e-mail Vonage sent me shortly after my LNP request on July 6, saying I had a "distinctive ring" feature on my old number that had to be removed before they could proceed. In fact, I never had this feature on the line, but I did have call block, which I removed. As requested in Vonage's e-mail, I gave them the work order/confirmation number from Verizon. After that I just sat tight and the LNP was completed less than two weeks later.

Due to how long it's taking for them to transfer my number over, Vonage has submitted the request twice:

April 8, 2006 Awaiting Letter of Authorization

April 8, 2006 Transfer Sent to Carrier
June 5, 2006 Letter of Authorization (LOA) Received

However, still no phone line as of yet. But b/c of all my b!tching to Vonage, they have sent me 2 emails that say:

We apologize for the frustration and delay in transferring your number.
We would like to stress that we are doing our best to resolve the
situation. We are treating the issue with the highest priority and will
give you an update soon.

We once again express our deepest apology for the inconvenience caused.

What a nice lil canned email. Would be nice if "someone" actually wrote me an email telling me what's going on. And of course, they say they will give me an update soon, but we all know that they won't. Just like the 2 supervisors I have spoken to that haven't called me back like they said they would. you guys are verizon customers right? so after you switched over to vonage..what is the ISP that you are using?are you guys still using the verizon dsl that was included with your old phone lines?? you just tell verizon that you want to keep the dsl line without the phone?? or you just get a new ISP?
