Post subject: Verizon port no problem at all
I was ported in exactly 20 days. I called
Vonage
at day 10 and they were amazed they had a port date and time scheduled from Verizon. The number ported exactly at 10am as scheduled. There was a 4 hour window from 6-10 am where my verizon number stopped working but the
Vonage
port hadn't kicked in yet (I was automatically transferred to Verizon voicemail if I dialed my number from a landline). I felt Verizon did everything right. I am also a FIOS customer so I wonder if I got better service (it seems FIOS customers are treated better).

I just got my transfer finalized today. The transfer took less than two weeks. Here's my experience:
April 28, 2005 Awaiting Letter of Authorization
May 9, 2005 Letter of Authorization (LOA) Received
May 9, 2005 Transfer Sent to Carrier
May 9, 2005 Carrier Approved Transfer
May 10, 2005 Completed LNP Transfer
After I sent the LOA & current statement to
Vonage
, I contacted Verizon through their website/e-mail support and explained to them that I was transfering my number over to
Vonage
and to see if they could do anything on their part to speed up the process. They responded saying that I need to communicate w/Vonage. I also sent
Vonage
an e-mail support message through their website to see if they received my LOA fax. I'm not sure if any of this actually helped speed up the transfer process, but I'm sure it doesn't hurt any.

March 20, 2005 Awaiting Letter of Authorization
March 22, 2005 Letter of Authorization (LOA) Received
March 22, 2005 Transfer Sent to Carrier
I called last week to see what was going on, got a ticket opened, and a couple days ago received a form-letter-looking email from the LNP department, saying they were checking on my status with their 3rd party carrier. Then today I checked my Verizon account, and there's a disconnect order set for 3-7pm on May 17! I guess being a semi-squeaky wheel
does
help. Hopefully the disconnect will happen when promised. There's no date on my
Vonage
account yet, but I expect that'll show up tomorrow.

Well I just wanted to chime in with a possitive report because I've heard so many horror stories.
May 3 - Request submitted (online)
May 3 - LOA completed (online)
May 12 - LNP completed
Barely gave me enough time to think about how I was going to hookup all the phones, caller ids, etc. Good thing phones aren't like audio or video signals.

Where do you go in Verizon to see if there is a disconnect order? I see a place to add new service.

Log into your Verizon account. The default page should be the "Summary" tab. The next tab to the right says "Order/Repair Status". That's where the disconnect order should be, and if you click the "View More" for the order, you'll be able to see the target time range (
Appointment Time).
By the way, the disconnect date has been on my Verizon account for days now, but still hasn't appeared on my
Vonage
account.

As an update, I did finally get an email today from
Vonage
, confirming tomorrow's date for the transfer. *fingers crossed*

This was with Verizon in Richmond, VA. I was very pleased with the turn-around time.

Since it takes an hour to do a wireless number transfer, I wonder if foot dragging by the carrier is like keeping you hostage to keep their $ coming in.

Called again and still waiting.... and waiting...
