I submitted LOA on February 3 to
Vonage
requesting port of number from Verizon. Checked Verizon customer service website and called Verizon Customer service on March 3 (21 working days from initiation) Both Verizon sources indicated that transfer request had been received and was scheduled for March 10. Transfer occurred today, March 10 although no email verification or dashboard update from
Vonage
as yet.
Not warp speed, but within the expectations set by Vonage...i.e., minimum 20 business days.
Upstate NY location near Albany.

Where do you check online with Verizon?

Transfer Date: March 11, 2005
March 6, 2005 Placed order
March 7, 2005 Faxed Letter of Authorization (LOA) Received
March 11, 2005 Line Transfer Completed
After receiving another $100+ Verizon phone bill on my home line I decided to switch it to
Vonage
. I have had
Vonage
and AT&T for almost 2 years now as my business phone services with out any problems with either service.I placed the order on March 6th at 3AM... printed out and faxed the line transfer paperwork the next morning. The linksys router arrived yesterday and my line ported over on March 11th. I must say that was the fasts porting of a number I have had.
For those having an issue one of the pitfalls that can hold up your number port over is if you submit the request with information different then that which appears on the actual phone bill. For example, I live in a multi-family home. When I got OOL I did not specify that I live on the 2nd floor and my bill does not show it as part of my address. With my Verizon bill it lists the phone number associated with Floor 2 and that is what I put on the transfer paperwork. Is was printed in the instructions on the
Vonage
website to open your
Vonage
account with the EXACT SAME information that is on your phone bill if you are porting over an existing number in order to expedite the transfer. For this NJ user it worked flaulessly...
Hope this helps out some people...

I knew I should have kept my mouth shut..
As of this morning, my Verizon number no longer is porting to my
Vonage
box... I just got off the phone with
Vonage
CS - they told me 20 business day and could not explain why I was getting both
Vonage
and non
Vonage
calls to my ported number..
All they could do is say that it was a fluke and pointed me to the status area of my account for more information. It now reads:
Updated Date: Number Transfer Progress History:
March 6, 2005 Awaiting Letter of Authorization
March 7, 2005 Letter of Authorization (LOA) Received
March 7, 2005 Transfer Sent to Carrier
I guess this means I loose the top prise huh ??

EzPcConcepts, I have read some horror stories about the time it takes to have your number ported from Verizon, mine as noted above, took 5 weeks, from Feb. 1 to March 7th. Not too bad considering its Verizon. Good luck...

Post subject: Verizon Transfer
Well, I subscribed on 12/29/2004. By the time I got my paperwork submitted it was January 10, 2005. I am posting my history for you to
see.
Updated Date: Number Transfer Progress History:
December 31, 2004 Awaiting Letter of Authorization
January 10, 2005 Letter of Authorization (LOA) Received
January 10, 2005 Transfer Sent to Carrier
March 11, 2005 Carrier Approved Transfer
March 11, 2005 Completed LNP Transfer
The problem from the calls I made to tech support and have read here in the forums is that the CLEC who handles the number porting has been swamped by Vonages success. Verizon indicated that my number was cleared for porting approx. 4 weeks before it occurred.
My number actually ported and my old phone ceased to operate before the website indicated anything. I had to call tech support and advise them before the website reflected anything.
Cheers!

Well not counting the time that
Vonage
or whoever handles the port, (Paetec for me) it took Verizon 4 business days to release my number. This was in fact a very good transition on behalf of Verizon's behalf. Now it took a whole heck of a lot longer for
Vonage
(Paetec) to get the LOA to Verizon.
