Here in Cincinnati, porting my number from Cincinnati Bell to
Vonage
to 17 business days. Ordered the Service on Sunday, January 22nd and got confirmation of the transfer the evening of Tuesday, February 14th.
My POTS number had distinctive ring for fax, which I canx the day after I ordered
Vonage
.

I'm just about there. If all goes well with the porting, I'll be very satisfied.
February 3, 2006 Awaiting Letter of Authorization
February 5, 2006 Letter of Authorization (LOA) Received
February 5, 2006 Transfer Sent to Carrier
February 15, 2006 Carrier Approved Transfer
This includes the LOA getting kicked back to me once. The only reason I can see it happened was that Verizon had my zip+4 but I only put the zip in the form because it didn't look like it could accomodate the +4.
ETA: It looks like I jinxed myself a little bit.
Vonage
gave me a 2/15 date for transfer, but it is now 2/16. I won't get irked until I wake up in the morning withouta successful transfer. At that point, I'll venture into
Vonage
customer service land.

On February 6 I received an e-mail from
Vonage
that the transfer was bounced back because I had 'features' that had to be removed from the line. It then listed the features. The feature listed was DSL. Well, I DO NOT have DSL on that line, but I called Verizon and they were very helpful and said the only thing they could see was that the line being ported was the target of trunk hunting (which was true).
So, they said they would remove that.
I responded to
Vonage
with the details of the Verizon interaction and things proceeded smoothly.
So, while 6 weeks seems a bit long, it worked fine. This morning at about 7AM we noticed the Verizon circuit was dead, so I switched the interior wiring to the RTP300 and all is well.

February 5, 2006 Transfer Sent to Carrier

Not as quick as others with SBC have reported but 2 weeks still isn't bad.

my transfer is still in progress but here is how it went:
I signed up but didn't realize my email address was incorrect
so Ididn't get a welcome or startting email
I thought after signing up things would be automatic but when after a couple of week s I heard nothing from
Vonage
I logged into my account and that's when I discovered there was a problem with the loa.
apparently (I think) there was a problem with either an apostrophe in my address or the person who took my info spelled my nems wrong when talking to me over the phone -
either way when I got a hold of a person we discovered there was no way for her to fix the LOA so we had to cancel out that order and re-do the order to port.
January 14, 2006 Awaiting Letter of Authorization
January 21, 2006 Letter of Authorization (LOA) Received
January 21, 2006 Transfer Sent to Carrier
February 4, 2006 LNP Transfer Cancelled
I had to wait 24 hrs before re ordering which I did then I waited a week or so and checked with verizon only to discover that they did not even receive the order - even though a
Vonage
customer rep swore to me twice that he could see the order was sent!
finally I got a woman at
Vonage
who looked whereever it is they look and said "what I'm going to do is send this out" - I couldn't believe it.
February 4, 2006 Awaiting Letter of Authorization
February 17, 2006 Letter of Authorization (LOA) Received
February 17, 2006 Transfer Sent to Carrier
what was she looking at that the other guy missed?
anyway here is the kicker - the emails they send me they spell my last name wrong - It's right in my account online but they spell it with F instead of S and so far no one has answered any of my emails -
So I'm sitting here with fingers crossed hoping that they got my name right this time on the LOA
- last thing - my voicmail box disappeared.
and when I call customer service I want to scream.
so here are my suggestions for
Vonage
:
1. lose the "local phone companys have a habit of delaying.... or whatever the speech is thatputs blame on local phone companies -
that may be true but it sounds so unprofessional to point fingers
2. If you don't know say I don't know and go find out
I think I could have speeded up the transfer process if someone had just said they didn't know what was going on -

I don't have access to documentation now as my numbers were ported almost 2 years ago, however, I do remember it did take a month from the time I submitted paperwork.
However, they lost one line...meaning I submitted paperwork on two lines, was informed all was now transferred, so I cut the landline services and one number never did come over...a 212 area code at that. Twice I instigated 'investigations' and twice for months no response.
Vonage
and customer service are an oxymoron. Finally had to give up and just lose a 212 area code...even people getting Verizon land lines can't get 212 anymore.
Never received credit nor even a real response, but after about a year of battling, gave up.

My GF is currently struggling with
Vonage
and Time Warner. Yep, it's the old "blame game" again! I think she's upset enough to cancel the whole thing because she's tired of paying two (2) phone bills.
I WAS gong to switch over to
Vonage
also, but I think I'll stay where I'm at or just go with my cell phone for everything. It dosen't sound like it's worth the hassle. The old adage, "If it sounds to good to be true ...", comes to mind

I was very satisfied with the porting of my number. I was scared after reading some of the posts here, but I had no problem really. Seems like the free month is to appease you while they get this done. My number was ported just in time for my first payed month:)
