Please detail what you are saying. Given wrong area code?

What is your area code? I looked up your city and found not much in the way of big towns near (halfway between chattanooga and nashville). Can you call either of these cities toll free? Can people from either of those cities call you toll free?

When you sign up for Vonage, you are given an area code and a city name. That area code, in that city, must be a local call from the people whom you want to call you in order for it to work. Just because your area code is XXX does not mean everybody in XXX area code will be able to call you toll free. In many cases, the city matters!

If Vonage has a phone number that is local for those who call you, you can change by logging into your account and clicking on Billing. On the right side is an option to change your phone number. I think there is a $10 charge for this, which you could probably get waived if you made a good enough case. But you would need to call customer service to get that, most likely.

Caveat emptor!

I did some further research, and it appears your area code is most likely 931. The only 931 area code Vonage offers is for Clarksville, which is 136 miles away from you (northwest of Nashville, near the Kentucky state line). My guess is Clarksville is not a local call from Mcminnville, I could be wrong but most telcos I don't think would consider that a "local" call...

I am just guessing here, but you may be out of luck until Vonage adds more local 931 exchanges for you. You could keep your Vonage service and perhaps add a toll free line? Then you could call people back (since you have a limited amount of toll-free minutes). Probably too much of a hassle though...

Sorry!

YesI was given the WRONG area code so people local to me cannot call me unless they call with a toll charge, they gave me area code 901 when I asked for 931 I need area code 931 for people to be able to call me and getting help with this matter has been exeptionaly difficult, I get automated responses to me emails and a "Due to high call volumes we cannot help you , call back later" or busy signals . If I could get someone a REAL person I would use this option and have the $10 fee waived if possible, unfortionatly I cannot. This has been realy disapointing, I hope they can help me fix this as the service seems to work very well and would be well worth the montly charge if I could get this fixed. The 931 area code IS for Mcminnville Tennese which is where I live and close by surrounding area.

Have you tried calling off hours? Perhaps one of the Vonage reps here can help you out. You can try PMing vonagebest or ssantana...they are busy people, though...

The only 931 area code I can find on Vonage's web site, though, is for Clarksville...I can't find any area code for Mcminnville. But perhaps I am looking at the wrong place.

Good luck!

You could always change your number through the dashboard and accept the $10 charge. Then, also through the dashboard, you can submit a claim for a credit for that $10 and that way you won't have to wait on hold! Smile
