I notice that CID does not show up on my screen until the 2nd ring. Is your wife letting it "Beep" and then waiting or does she "Flash" it right away, in which case I don't think it is long enough to ID the call.

Call waiting Caller ID has never worked for me, since I've started using Vonage. It was working with SBC, so I know the phones are capable (ATT desk phone & VTech cordless system).

I had submitted several help requests in the past, got the reply that basically said "ok, we fixed, restart your adapter". But it never fixed, it, and has never worked.

Same here, just tried mine. Call Waiting works, but no CWDX function (Call Waiting Caller ID). It did work with this phone under Verizon, so the problem is with Vonage.

I hate to say it but "Ditto"

I have a Toshiba cordless phone that was able to do call waiting caller ID with Qwest, Bell South, and Sprint...but not with Vonage. I will wait for 4 annoying call waiting beeps but not once is any caller ID information displayed. It worked for me ONCE, but has not worked since.

I have a Linksys RT31P2 adapter.

Using previous experience with a broadband cable provider who offers Voip through their private IP network, there were some phone adapters that had low output voltage that caused some answering machines not recognize a ring and also CID data. The fix for this was swapping to a different phone adapter, sometimes it would require tring many different units. Sometimes replacing the actual phone device was the only solution. I read on the forum that it may be possible for Vonage to increase voltage remotely. See if they can do that for you?

It is a voltage problem. The phone adaptor provides the (signal strength to your phone) power you need for CID and ringing etc. Try a shorter line cord from the adaptor to the phone. Also many phones that use the caller id in the handset have a problem since they have to send the cid data through that curly cable. I have a problem with a distant phone like that. The phone near the adaptor gets cid fine.

I am not so sure that it is a distance problem. It could be if the distance was great. Generally speaking a home should not entail that much distance to create a loss of Call Display information.

Here are a couple of things that I have noticed with my phones. I have 5 phones hooked up to Vonage. One of them is a cordless phone. More times than enough, cordless phones are the phones that do not pick up the call display info when it comes through on call waiting. It has to do with the signal being transmitted through the airwaves. If you are at a place in the house where the reception may not be 100% perfect, then it will not work. Do you notice the problem is happening mostly on your cordless phone? Even with the regular land telephone company, my cordless phone would sometimes miss the caller id.

The other problem could be your other phones. One of the phones may be receiving the information, and draining the entire line while it is receiving the info. This renders the other phones incapable of obtaining the data to display the caller id info.

DarKev,

Good suggestions, but in my particular case it's not the issue I believe. I have had this particular cordless phone for 4-5 years, and in that time I have always had CWCID. Never, not once, has it failed to work on POTS. But it has only worked once on Vonage (in the 2 months I've had the service).

Perhaps increasing the voltage would work. I wonder if one of the reps here can do it.

It is possible that it is a line voltage problem. However just because you are using the same phone as you did with another company does not mean that your hook-up is exactly the same. Maybe your Vonage equipment is directed to other phones in your house before it hits your cordless phone, whereas with your POTS line, the cordless phone was not last. It could be the other way around, maybe your cordless phone is now first when it used to be last. If you have other call display boxes or phones throughout your house, one can interfere with the signal of another.

I had an old Call Display box made by Nortel. It was called the "Prevue". It caused all sorts of problems with my other phones. Sometimes when a new call came in, the box would flash my line, giving me an intermittent dial tone. It was a crazy box, and it often stopped some of my other call display boxes from retrieving the info. Once I pulled the plug on the Nortel Prevue, all of the strange problems cleared up.

I suppose this is a possibility, however AFAIK the cordless is still first on the chain. I can try unplugging the others. It's just never been an issue that's concerned me enough to troubleshoot.
