Hi All!
Has anyone had success with forwarding a Google Voice number to Vonage, but as far as voice mail handling is concerned, do the following:
Call GV# ---------->Vonage rings ---->If No answer-GV voicemail greeting Call Vonage#----------------------->If No Answer-Vonage voicemal greeting
Pretty simple concept, to want to use google voicemail for calls that came in on GV# and Vonage voicemail for calls that came in on dialed Vonage#
The problem I see is that GV makes Vonage ring, but Vonage voicemail takes over. Setting a Vonage 25 second delay before forwarding to the GV number and Google voice handles both called numbers.
Hmmm. Anyone get this working?

Hi,
I am not a Vonage customer, but I had question regarding Google Voice. If you have experience with GV and Vonage and you could answer my question I'd appreciate. However, I think I can offer you my thoughts on the question you posted. Even though I don't have direct experience/knowledge with Vonage, some of the info might be relevant. After my post, I'll put my question to you at the end. Thanks.
I don't know the answer to your question but from experience it always seems to be a problem to know "when" and "when not" GV voicemal or the native voicemail (in your case Vonage) kicks in.
From the GV side, it all has to do with time. I think GV voicemail always kicks in after about 25 seconds and there is no way for you to control it. Also, I am not sure where and what point the 25 second clock starts to initiate, so it might not be 25 seconds of ringing. If Vonage is similar, and like GV where you can't control time or ring-cycle, you are really at mercy of random fate.
People who use cell phones and GV who don't want the phone's native voicemail picking up have to call their cell company and get them to disable their cell phone's voice mail. Otherwise, they have trouble controlling which voicemal picks up call. (Unless they have what called "conditional forwarding" where the cell phone permits "full integration" with GV, but I highly doubt Vonage permits full integration with GV).
Okay, here is my question --- can you use your computer to have Google Voice make a call to your Vonage line so even though it is an 'outbound' call, your Vonage 'inbound' minutes don't get docked?
Thanks in advance if you know the answer. |

I tried this with google voice unfortunately, they don't have a feature to forward numbers. I guess you need to purchase their premium package? |

Thank you very much!
I never ordered V so I never I had a chance to test it out myself. I did speak or chat with a V customer service rep, and they mentioned that "if I had a way to make my Vonage line ring, then those calls would not count as 'outbound' minutes"
So unless there is a misunderstanding or misconstruing of communication mix-up, the Vonage rep and you are saying opposite things.
Of course I would trust you over the rep since you actually troubleshooted and attempted, and I surely don't doubt what you said, but just for clarification, were you initiating the call from Google Voice from your computer?
I am not talking about initiating and making the call from your V line. I am talking about when you are in Google Voice and choosing to make a call, and you get prompted to ask which number to make the call from. If you choose your cell phone, or Google Talk, or a traditional landline, GV then rings that phone and you pick up, and at that point GV connects you to your outbound intended call.
Were you talking about this? And you tried, and it doesn't work?
Thanks for putting up with me. |
