New to Vonnage - setting it all up

I just got my "stuff" from Vonage. I did a test yesterday and everything seemed to work fine. I have a Siemens 8825 system - 2 lines multiple handsets.

My questions are...
How do I get a regular telephone to work that is not close to my regular set up(non Siemens) is that possible?

When I did my test - the Siemens phones worked great calling out - but when you called the numbers it still went to my MCI vm - is that because the process is not complete on the number portability part?

these links talk about wiring your house for Vonage, which can be found in many other threads too. try searching for them if these don't work out for you.

the number portability states it takes a minimum of 20 business days. there are a ton of these threads too, which results ranging from 6+ months to a week.

while ur number Portability is still "under process", Vonage gives you a temp. number. You can call this temp number and it will ring on ur vonage-phone.

Thanks for the link it makes a lot of sense now.

I understand about the time to get the number switched over. The thing that was confusing me was I got an email yesterday while I was testing my system with a VM on it - on my 2nd line. How could that happen if the portability portion has not been completed? They did not have my virtual number.

that can happen if the calling Party is also with Vonage i.e. if someone who is a Vonage subscriber calls ur POTS/old number, it will ring on ur Vonage line.
