I havent read the whole thread yet, but just from reading the first few posts, (am not familiar with the UK devices, as I am mainly USA/Canada support) but im 99.9% sure that the devices are the same as our USA devices which will only work on the inner 2 (red/green) pair on the phone wire. Hope this avoids alot of headaches

It is ok if you have a phone wire with all 4 (black, green, red, and yellow) but if you don't have redand green, it probably wont work

I've had the problem with the failed ringer since 12hours after initial installation in early March. I get no response from Customer "Services" (email, etc) despite several tries. Now as of last Saturday (16th Apr) the dialtone has gone as well. Still no help from Vonage.

I have ordered a combined router, modem, gateway & Voip (Zoom X5V ADSL Voip 5 Port Modem / Firewall / Gateway / Router) and will give it one last try when it arrives (I felt my network gear could benefit from an upgrade, anyway) but I have a sinking feeling that the Vonage thingy isn't going to work before my stretched patience finally expires. That will be a shame - I had been asked by a few IT specialists to let them know how the Vonage Voip idea progressed.

ADSL microfilter did not help me.

However, buying a new phone did ... Vonage now works for me, although I have one or two tests still to do it's looking positive.

Phone bought - Binatone Activity 1000. My other phones are relatively old, this may/may not be a factor.

I'm glad I read this thread! My phone also wasn't ringing and after 3 attempts with Vonage they finally sent through the adaptor. I was really disappointed as when I realised the adaptor I realised that I already had one connected whihc came in the box so I thought grrr how stupid are they?

Then I read this thread and realised maybe it was the adaptor that was faulty so I tried the new one they sent and everything is working fine.

Thanks guys

My BT Converse 180 phone wasn't ringing either until I checked out this forum. Thanks to everyone who posted here, you solved my problem.

I have put a standard microfilter between my telephone and my RJ-11/BT adapter that plugs into the back of the Vonage Linksys router. My phone now rings.

A friend of mine who's on an IRC channel, he was having the same problem. He tried the same solution and it worked for him too.

I was not happy with Vonage 1st line tech support. It was some call centre in India whose language skills were extremely poor. Then they transferred me through to 2nd line support in the US. They were much better and promised to ship me out a replacement microfilter ASAP.

I have asked tech support to make their entire opperation aware of this fix as it is very simple and straight forward. I have asked them to add a note into their packaging for their UK customers too.

I'm amazed that this posting has been going on for so long and that Vonage couldn't have sorted this out sooner.

Hey Vonage! How about shipping a £2 microfilter out with every UK package? Surely this would be cheaper in the longrun and wouldn't scare away new customers.

So far so good. I would rate Vonage service 8 out of 10 so far.
2 points lost off a perfect score because of the microfilter issue and using a poor quality foreign call centre.

I have just had the same problem - I have spoken to 3 members of technical support today, 1 in India and 2 in US for probably an hour in total, none of them had any idea what I was talking about. When I was on the last call I actually found this forum and read it to the guy - he sounded confused and said I would need to speak to the team who deals with the UK - tried to put me through and failed - they are supposed to call me. From reading the forum I immediately plugged in my wife's Binatone phone and it worked.

I'm glad there are some people out there who know what's going on, because Vonage obviously don't - if they want a niche play in UK, then they might get away with it, but for mass market they haven't got a hope.

For those of you who have had problems with phones not ringing, our apologies. You are correct, this is a known problem and most agents are aware of the process to resolve.

Unfortunately earlier shipments were made with an old adapter that did not have the correct capacitor. all current products are shipped with an adapter that is correct.

For those customers who have older product, we will send new "dongles" directly to those customers who write to us--no questions asked.

Again our apologies for the confusion and lack of attention.

Those who are under the impression that there are NO Vonage charges to land lines in the UK - if one has the premium account, please check out the exceptions to that "No Charge".

Some lines i.e. the 870 (oxford university) numbers - Calls to this number are charged at the national call rate from within the UK and international call rate from outside the UK.

Vonage charges about 28c/min for calls to the 870 numbers - even with premium unlimited calling.

Interesting
