A half hour call with a Vonage "support engineer" was a complete waste of time. I have a new Vonage adaptor and want to connect it to my desktop client via a 16 port Ethernet switch (D-Link DES-1016D) which is gender sensing (i.e., doesn't need a crossover cable to connect from the Vonage LAN port to the switch). If I connect the Vonage adaptor directly to the desktop PC, fine - but that removes the desktop PC from the LAN. So, I connected a Cat5 cable from the LAN port of the Vonage adaptor to the switch (by the way, tried both a straight and a crossover just to be sure). No connection between the Vonage adaptor and the PC, and moments later, the 'phone' LED drops on the Vonage adaptor.
So I have to remove the Cat5 cable, reboot the Vonage adaptor and do without the computer linlk. Since the Vonage adaptor arrived with a different internal address (192.168.15.1), I forced it to match my internal LAN address scheme and gave it a 192.168.10.X address. It does not make any difference to the connection with the PC though.
Does anyone have a suggestion? - I have zero faith in the "experts" at Vonage. |

The IPs still don't match. It needs to be on the same subnet. Both of them should have the same first three octets either 192.168.15.x or 192.168.10.x |
