Post subject: RTP31P2 .. Line Test == Reversed???
I am getting ready to plug my RT31P2 into my home phone jack to wire up all my house phones, but before doing so I thought to plug my radio shack phone line tester into the back of the RT31P2's phone jack to test the line signal.
The color on the phone tester came up RED .. which indicates the signal is reversed!! ****!? Why is this happening?
Anyone have a clue?
I'm a bit worried that I may blow the RT31P2 by plugging it into my house phone system if the signals are all messed up. I HAVE put a surge protector between it and the phone. My plan is to leave that surge protector in place when I plug it into the jack.
Anyone have any idea if this is normal and/or if I should be worried?
Thanks .. and yes, the external line has been completely disconnected.
Thanks again!

Ok .. so plugged it into my jack .. and when testing the signal through other jacks .. the phone tester indicated a GREEN ... which indicates that the wires AREN'T crossed. Since this is all wired in parallel .. I'm not sure why it matters, but I'm tired .. exhausted from another 2 hours of hold music and 10+ hours of work .. I'm sure I'll make sense of it all tomorrow.
Good news for me is that support finally fixed my issue (simple MAC address change took 6 hours) .. and I'm up and running on all phones internally.

Phone lines don't care which way they are wired... you can totally reverse the wires and the phone will still work. Phones work by sending pulses down the lines and the difference in each line is what makes the sound (or so I've been told)... at any rate.... it does not make a difference which way you put the wires in.
