No Dial tone

I was told that if I hook the router into a single phone jack all of the jacks in my house would work. I disconnected my phone line on the outside of the house so there was no dial tone but it is not working.

The single phone that I have hooked up to the other phone jack on the back of the router does work but the rest of my house is not working.

Was I given bad information?

are you using a splitter on the back of the router to connect your home wiring and the phone, or are you using Telephone Port 2 to connect to your home wiring?

I am an idiot (kind of). First, thanks for the quick reply. I had the phone line plugged into Port=2. When I plugged it into Port=1 I got a dial tone!

However, when I plug a phone into Port=2 I don't get a dial tone. If Port=1 goes right into the jack can I not use #2 for a regular phone? In my office there is no other phone jack so I need to plug the phone in that room into something. Do I just need a splitter? Will that affect the rest of the house?

Port=2 is for a 2nd phone line. So, unless u subscribe for a 2nd line from Vonage, you will not get a dialtone on it.

Yes : u only need a splitter to attach a phone to line=1. The splitter should not affect the rest of the house.

yeah, you can use a splitter. Port 2 is for a second line. The splitter shouldn't affect the service to everything else. Give it a try and see if it works!
