Vonage won't be successful in UK until more English!

It needs to change all the Americanisms to be Anglicised. For example "press £ when you've finished" when leaving a message!
Who you kidding!? English phones don't have £ signs.

All the American voices need to be changed to be English.

The ringing tone on incoming calls needs to be changed to the English way.

That's right! You tell 'em! Twisted Evil

As I'm sure that you know, the term "pound key" means number sign. "Number sign" is actually the proper telco industry term for "#" even on this side of the pond but for some reason the term "pound key" was circulated and was widely accepted and used in "society at large."

We, the people of the Commonwealth, need to stick together on this! It's "number sign" in my house from now on. Smile

The 2 things I'd really like to see provided by Vonage are ACR and the ability to take your number with you to Vonage.

With those, I'd happily jump ship from my current provider - after all who wouldn't want to cut their phone bill Smile

To all those who are writing with suggestions, thank you. Just to let you know some of the issues you have raised are being addressed.

Other suggestions, we are considering. So, please bear with us as we gradually introduce new services, and fix "old" complaints.

By the way, we would also like to give you the chance to keep your telephone number. Unfortunately, current UK and EU regulations prohibit from doing this easily.

Feel free to post in this forum, since I read this regularly--as do most of my team.

regards

i'd love to know why. In a simplified explanation any licensed telco in the UK is able to do number porting. You just need to have an agreement with the donor telco. I appreciate that Vonage appears not to be a telco in its own right and uses another telco number blocks - I may be wrong on this.

I have to add that we have a UK telco license so i have some knowledge about this.

in the uk, licences are no longer given for telecom operators. there are two types of operators: those classified as PATS (publicly available telephone system) and ECS (electronic communication services). These are both EU definitions and have different rights and obligations.

The only providers allowed to port numbers are those classifed as PATS (General Condition 1Cool. There is a long list of requirements that companies have to fulfill before they are able to port numbers. An ECS cannot port numbers, even with the approval of another operator--unfortunately!

There are various initiatives in the works that, hopefully, will allow a broader range of companies to port numbers, but we're not there yet.

Do you have a rough estimate for possible timescales, assuming you're able to of course. Is it looking like it's possible this year, or more likely next, or even longer term?

TIA

love to be able to give you an indication but unfortunately a lot of the decisions are in the hands of the regulators here in the uk and in brussels.
feel free to write to stephen carter, CEO of OFCOM! that will certainly help!!
