I suddenly receive an email from Vonage saying I missed a few calls. I logged in to see that these people called my regular phone number. It seems that Vonage took over my phone number without letting me know! Not 10 minutes ago I was using my standard landline, and then it's no longer there.

Has anyone else had this happen to them?

Plus, do I need to cancel my previous phone service with BellSouth or will BellSouth cancel it for me?

it will be automatically canceled as long as one, regular phone line was all you had with them.
you should have been notified.

you also would be required to send in an LOA for the number to be ported.

how so? in his topic title he seems excited, yet in the message he makes it seem that we took the number without his authorization.

I authorized my port in Dec/04, and it happened without me being notified. I didn't have any phones plugged into the router at the time and I missed quite a few calls before I finally received notice that it had happened. I wasn't notified in the morning that it was going to take place either. So it does happen.

Same thing just happened to us. At noon my wife received a regular call on our landline. A couple of hours later she went to use it, and it was dead. I called the house and the Vonage phone rang. While, I am EXTREMELY happy it ported, it would have been nice to have had some warning. Luckily we had a phone plugged into it. It hasn't even shown up in the Existing Phone Number Transfer Status yet.

I also had my POTS number transferred from SBC in Illinois to Vonage with out any warning, I simply went to use my old POTS line out of habit and it was completely dead. I went and checked my e-mail and there was nothing from Vonage, I check my dashboard and there was no change on the status for the number change. This has been 10 days ago and the dashboard still has not been changed?? I was riding Vonage pretty hard about making the transfer so maybe that got tired of me and simply pushed it through so they wouldn't have to listen to me?? Whatever it was I am now happpy. Very Happy
