PostPosted: Wed Feb 09, 2005 6:53 am    Post subject: rt31p2 QoS kills my upstream Reply with quote Back to top

Hi:
Forgive me if this has been discussed before, there's this little thing called information overload...

I have SpeakEasy ADSL 1.5/768 with two IP addresses, and a switch from the modem splitting to two routers (a d-link DI-604 and the RT31P2, each with their own static IP address).
I run a bunch of servers, and I thought it would be best to run them through the rt31p2 because of it's QoS packet management, and my other less bandwidth intensive stuff through the router on my other IP address, as well as a couple of aditional servers using ports that are already being used by the other NIC on the server machine.
However, it seems that the QoS is taking things just a bit too far...

When the phone is being used, I go from being able to upload at around 85KBPS, to uploading around 2/3KBPS (dial-up speeds).
I happen to know that the codec should only be using about 11K on the high bandwidth setting, and yet it drags my upstream to almost nothing when there is plenty of headroom.
I tested this theory by taking the bandwidth down to 30 KBPS, and this still occurs. Even though the adapter is only sending phone calls at about 3.75 kbps, it takes local area traffic on the router to dial-up level.

I'd like some QoS scheduling, but not *that* much. As it turns out, I don't like this adapter's router that much anyway, so I'll probably end up getting a stand-alone phone adapter and another router that can support QoS (my D-link DI-604 doesn't as far as I know).
I have firmware 1.25.00 on the RT31P2.

Anyone know of a fix for this?

Hi:
At the wrisk of sounding stupid, where do I go to change this? I've looked on every page of the interface and can't find any editable upstream value anywhere.
P.S. the only thing I see on the "voice" tab is the following: Please contact your service provider for further information." Is this normal for the RT31P2?

yes it's normal.
QoS is under Applications and Gaming, then QoS on the nav bar that appears right below it.
