I'm not really an expert, but the first thing I would do:

Verify the connections on the back of the Linksys. Make sure your phone is plugged in and the Ethernet cable is in snugly. Then, shut down your router, phone adapter, and modem (DSL or cable). Turn on your modem and wait until it is ready. Then turn on the router, wait for it to fully boot up and for your computers to be able to access the Internet. finally, turn on your Linksys adapter and wait for it to boot up. Give it 5 minutes before worrying about the phone light not being on.

I guess it's worth a try?

I am mostly lost with this stuff ... but Vonage worked right out of the box for me, with the Linksys RT31PT added to my wireless router. Haven't had a serious problem in two months ... then this morning, nothing. No dialtone and the light for the phone line will not come on.

Is the firmware update everyone is talking about the culprit? I didn't ask for it or OK it or anything. Did it get updated without my knowledge and somehow end my phone service?

I cycled the power on and off several times, still nothing. Someone please help? It **** having no phone service.

The firmware should not have caused that type of problem. Please send me a pm with all of your acct information.

Thanks,

-Steve

ssantana,

You've got a PM coming your way. I've been on hold for 30 minutes now just waiting for tech support. It would be funny if I could register for this forum, send you a PM and get the upgrade before anyone even answers the phone at 1-Vonage-Help.

Hi Ssantana,

My friend just received his LinkSys ATA/Router today. Do you suppose he would need the upgrade? Would this upgrade happen to fix the constant hum on the line while using this particular ATA? I was surprised to hear this. My Motorola ATA does not make this noise at all.

Thanks.

Well it took over an hour on hold, but I finally got through and I now have the new firmware. Hopefully it will resolve my problem, which is the LAN ports resetting sporadically.

I just have cable modem --> Vonage router --> two PCs. Several times a day, both computers connected to the Vonage router will tell me the network cable has been unplugged, followed by another message saying the network cable is now connected at 100.0Mbps. During that 10-15 seconds, any file transfers or active connections such as VPN are terminated. This can happen as little as once every 2-3 hours or as often as 3-4 times per hour. When it happens, my Voip is uninterrupted, so it is obviously just affecting the LAN ports. And if I put my old router back in place of the Vonage router, everything is rock-solid.

Crossing my fingers....

awesome. is there a manufacturer date and place made on the unit?

I couldn't find any noticeable difference in the numbers under the unit, except the old seral number was CH500Dxxxxxx and the new one is CH500Exxxxxx. Could the switch from 'D' to 'E' mean a newer model?

I have had the original firmware of 1.24 since I initiated the service in October 04.

I have had NO issues with this TA: all calls are clear, no humming, no other intereference, etc.

Should I upgrade to the newest firmware or stay with current firmware?

Tks!

did you read the past 4 pages of posts? if so, and you still have no idea, my recommendation is to not touch or do anything that would change your configuration or setup.

Yes, I did read ALL pages. Smile It looked like it could go both ways with some reporting issues, while others were not.
