I wanna go on the record and say having the upgrade can't be done by the user. I ran again across the page in the manual that states, "Firmware Upgrade. Firmware upgrades are performed only by Vonage. Contact Vonage for more information." Thought I rememberd this but figured they changed it but considering my results after 4-5 bios upgrade attempts I would have to say its still in effect.

If someone upgrades the unit with the firmware please tell me I'm wrong.

I prefer to let Vonage do updates for me over-the-air, but if you want to do it yourself you may need to enable remote upgrades on the router's config screen. I think you may be "remote" to your router even if you're on the same local network, but I'm not sure of that.

I'm not recommending this, but you might check to see if you have remote updates setting enabled. That might be why the updates were being refused by your router.

I would wait for the over-the-air update to be safe.

Good luck.

Thats one of the things I had tried in at least 2 of my attempts. That doesn't work either.

Thanks anyway,

What does the firmware accomplish? Will it help TiVos dial out, ACR/new features? The last upgrade held no noticeable effect. Maybe this one is for the people with sound quality issues? Mine ain't broke, I wonder if they will break it for me.....

Vonage doesn't do updates over the air, at least in the sense that all that happens is the router gets the firmware via tftp instead of you. it's the same file on the same server, so what is there to be safe about?

as far as manually upgrading, that's interesting. kind of like the vpn passthrough that is there but doesn't actually work. what exactly happens quisp?

reebok,

We may be quibbling about words here (and I'm sure you're right), but I don't do anything and Vonage updates my firmware directly without any intervention from me -- or even my knowledge that it is happening. For my money, that is effectively "over-the-air" updating -- but there may be a technical difference that I don't understand. Very Happy

Although it may be true that the MAC address can be changed via the MAC Clone function, the MAC address on file at Vonage is the same as the one that is printed on the side of the router box.

Yes, that's right. But if the MAC address has been cloned to a different one, the operating MAC address will not match the one that is on file at Vonage. That's why I said it is safer to check it directly from the config screen on the router.

In fact, if the address on the box and the one on the config screen don't match, that could explain the problem. It is also possible that Vonage has the wrong MAC address on file, perhaps one from a returned router rather than the current one. Others have reported on this forum about having that problem after exchanging routers.

HELLO???

Im short of just putting this post in caps....

This question has been asked how many times and evaded as usual by Vonage....

What fixes are in this new version?

FYI Router crashed yesterday over and over while I surfed and another pc was up and surfing etc. You cannot send larger e-mail's while talking on phone let alone anything else.

How long do we have to wait for the reboot/crash/cannot surf/cannot send larger e-mail AND use the phone at the same time ISSUE??? This is getting all too old and this is the 3rd router and my ISP is fine. They all do the same thing from the beginning to now. I think somebody at Vonage with a clue should test this junk huh.

And ya gotta love it when you call tech support and the person at the other end says "I never heard of your issue" over and over. I tell ya im lookin elsewhere. Reliable equipment is not in Vonages plan and they don't care.

Tried downloading new firmware using TFTP and got it on harddrive. Tried manual upgrade via router config page and it states that the upgrade failed.
