OK. Then is it usually automatic, or does it have to be requested?

good question. it's supposed to be automatic (imagine Vonage offering ACR that requires a firmware upgrade and just waiting for 400K+ people to request it). but they obviously don't automatically push every single little firmware upgrade as evidenced by the disparity of versions just from people on this board.

for those who don't want to wait for the firmware to be pushed or PM'd or whatever, note that ssanatana provided the file name of the firmware. also remember Vonage uses tftp. so put two and two together and you get this:

C:\>tftp tftp.vonage.net get RT31P2_v1.27.01_000_combin_code.bin

Transfer successful: 1038000 bytes in 108 seconds, 9611 bytes/s

then upgrade it yourself through the admin pages.
personally I'm waiting for a changelog...

reebok,

I suspect a lot of people have automatic updates disabled on their routers. I know that it was disabled by default on my RT31P2 when it arrived. I don't think Vonage can override that setting, but maybe it can.

I imagine that this would work the same from the command line on *nix boxes. I use Mac OS X.

from what I see in the manual, I believe "remote upgrade" is different from a "vonage upgrade". in other words, I believe the router sees something like this: Vonage is talking to me, Vonage is sending me new information, new information applied.
as opposed to the remote upgrade: some weird IP is talking to me, some weird IP is sending me new information, remote upgrade is disabled, new information denied. (or applied depending on the setting).
so I don't think Vonage bypasses it so much as it doesn't apply to them at all.

disturbed: tftp is a protocol just like anything else. the internet isn't windows specific, just like email and any FTP server isn't. protocols aren't bound by OS, the OS simply has to interact with the protocol (via a program or built in functionality.)

That's what I figured. I personally have never used tftp, so that's why I just wanted to make sure.

Thanks

I downloaded the file and haven't been able to install it. It goes through the process of upgrading and then its the same version 1.24.xx.
