I just want to let the community know that a new firmware for the RT31P2 has been released. (RT31P2_v1.27.01_000_combin_code.bin )
I will attach a changelog if I can obtain one. In the meantime if you would like your firmware updated just send me a pm and I will do it for you. Thanks guys! Smile (provide complete account information)

Hi:
I live in Nome, Alaska and the satellite latency factor is making it so that I cannot automatically upgrade the firmware for me RT31P2. I just started using Vonage two days ago, so its a drag that my router is useless until I can upgrade the firmware (it won't properly connect to Vonage's Voip servers until the upgrade is accompished). Can you send me an upgrade file or direct me to a download site where I can obtain the bin file for the firmware upgrading??? Thanks Eek

The problem is, because it's a Vonage router it CANNOT be updated. Period. You have to wait for Vonage to update it, if they update it..

If you're having problems I recommend you call Vonage and eat them alive, because that's what I'm about to do right now.. I'm sick and tired of waiting for ssantana to do an upgrade that never happens, it's been since the first few days of february already and that lazy jerk still hasn't bothered.

Thanks for the heads up. I've only been a customer for 48 hours and tech support is making me crazy. I've already lodged two complaints for having me wait an hour to connect with tech support. I know their firmware is "proprietary"...but their paranoia is no excuse for such sloppy tech support and their unwillingness to make the firmware downloadable.
I'm not blaming ssantana....but I'm very disappointed with the company as a whole so far and I'm thinking of switching to one of their competitors before I get into Vonage to deep. Sad

Instead of waiting for the poor guy that gets 100's of PMs a day to update your router, you need to call in like the rest of us. I waited two hours today but got mine updated. Santana is on this site often and helps a lot of people out but he cannot take care of everyone on his own. His above and beyond customer service has been awesome. He has been helping us out more as a favor than his job discription. Keep that in consideration before you bash the guy.

That's why I said I did not want to hold ssantana responsible...he does seem very helpful...but I still feel that in general the execs at Vonage could increase the help that ssantana and the other techs get because they are so inundated with issues. My apologies if it seemed that I was directing my comments to ssantana.

Why not have a firmware download page? Why do we have to call in? that another retarded feature of Vonage. you should be able to download updates like with all other Linksys routers.

I am still having issues.

Without asking for it, I have been upgraded to 1.27.

I noticed because:

- The voice quality is better
- My Internet connection keeps stopping but I can make Vonage phone calls

So... don't be so excited about getting this new firmware - I want my old firmware back!

On the PPTP issue, the RT31P2 does not allow GRE inbound. I do not know why Vonage has it shut off, but they do. I don't have a problem with it because my need for a VPN server behind the router is for experimentation only, but other people might have more need than I. You can connect to a VPN server from inside the firewall just fine by turning on the PPTP passthrough, but hosting one behind the firewall won't work.

If someone can tell me why inbound GRE is disabled or when Vonage might turn it on in the firmware, I would really appreciate it.
