guys don't ask for upgrade if you don't need it. if your equipment is working, leave it. not all upgrades are good. believe me it happened to me.

I'd say 80% of the people asking for the update DO have problems, I've seen it stated a dozen or so times.. some have problems with the router crashing/freezing/restarting periodically (or dropping out and reconnecting everything.. not exactly sure how it is but this happens to me almost daily) -- others have static, then others have phaser sounds or whatever else.

All I know is mine's @*#$ed and I wish it'd be fixed already, but it's been a while and the restarts keep coming.

the backround rushing air if far from hiss. When you get factual data that this issue is not firmware repairable do post. Mine is gone as is many I know since 1.27.01.

I probally am not receiving any updates from Vonage. I have to run the linksys router they provided me behind a netgear firewall router I am using. I have a few servers running that depend on my netgear router.

I can upgrade the firmware myself if it is sent to me. Is this possible?

Thank you.

there are several posts about manual updating in this exact same thread.
have you checked your firmware version? anyway, when the router connects to Vonage (i.e. when it's first powered on) since it starts communicating with Vonage, the firmware update can probably still be pushed. anyhow, there are probably posts about this too that I just don't remember.

I just checked today and my firmware was automatically updated! No more background "static" I previously wrote about. We'll see if that is truly fixed over time.

No manual firmware updates are possible, unless maybe you opened up your unit and have some extensive knowledge. When you try to push the bin file from the cd that came with your router the user name/password window comes up and it does not accept yours period. So Id say no you cannot push the firmware yourself.

The annoying thing is 1. You can't do manual updates, 2. The router doesn't seem to autoupdate when plugged into a PPPoE or any other type of line, especially if you reset EVERYTHING (duh)

mine updated without a call about the second day, and I have PPOE enabled. The remote upgrade is about the only thing I had ON in the process of this. I have a Speedstream 5260 bridge modem to the RT31P2.
