Hi SSantana and everyone,

I was going to ask you to update my RT31P2 firmware but I checked and it is already showing 1.27.1. I just got the router yesterday and am getting a hissing sound.

Do you have any ideas on how to elimiate the hissing (wind blowing sound?)

Make up a dongle from an old telephone cord, cut cord, short wires two and three, plug dongle into empty phone connector (assuming you have one line), end of noise (or it's so low you may not notice it). You can also plug in a phone and place it off hook.

or you can ask Vonage to send you a new router. some routers seem to have this defect, others do not. I got mine about 2 weeks ago and did not have the hissing problem. I know somebody else on the forum returned their router and the new one was fixed.

I'm on my second router and first hat, but the noise persists. I'm also supposed to be on "the wait list" for a new non-hissing router, but I'm more that a wee bit skeptical about ever having that shipped to me.

I posted earlier in this thread about my experience with returning a router. The new I got had no hissing on it. My new serial # is CH500Exxxxxx and the old one was CH500Dxxxxxx. Not sure if the "E" means its a newer model or not.

ArnB, what the serial # on the router you have now?

I've got a D serial number, with no hissing or phaser sound.

It seems to me it's a hit or miss type of thing. With the majority, I think, being okay.

I even went a step further in my noise quest and made CAT5 patch cords to connect my router to my house phone line and to a 5.8ghz phone I have. My rational being, if my house is CAT5, why should I have these little weenie wires in that "last mile" per say of my wiring. Seems to have made a little difference for the better.

thanks, a dongle was attached as suggested.. I still hear a slight noice (very low). So I would prefer that the device get replaced (if they will send me a replacement unit first before I send the defective back (so I have no downtime) Even Linksys RMA recommended that the dongle/extra phone in phone 2. But after chatting with a Linksys person via live-chat, they said I had to return it to Best Buy for replacement.. even when it's a known problem.. She gave me the RMA phone number, I called them.. after being on wait for 15 minutes, they gave me the Vonage number. I was on hold for another 20 with Vonage and gave up.. Is there a web form to request replacement of the Voip deviice?

I also have the CH500D, and no problems. I agree from what I've seen it is hit and miss. I guess for me the trouble free service thus far beats a hat. Guess I'll have to wait for the Vonage apparel link that I'm sure is soon to come. Rolling Eyes
