Seems I found my problem (or someone at Vonage read my post and did something magical from their end) and that it may help others who will be upgrading. If you are using the make shift fix for eliminating the loud static by plugging an off the hook phone or shorted phone cable into Line 2 this will interfere with receiving the firmware upgrade. So just unplug whatever you have plugged into line 2 before rebooting the router.

After reseting the router to factory defaults as above I'm unable to reconnect with the Vonage service.

I've looked through the router settings to see if anything might have been lost in the reset and I can't locate anything that needs changing since i had only the standard setup before anyhow. I've power reset the router a couple of times (after waiting about 10 minutes to ensure i wasn't cutting it off in the middle of a firmware upgrade) and there's no change.

As you can tell by this post, my internet connection works fine and i'm able to tftp Vonage so that's not the problem. I'll call customer support tomorrow when i can borrow my neighbours phone but was wondering if there's something that i might have missed. or anything else I can try.

Do you have a solid green phone indicator light on your RT31P2?

Have you checked the router's config screen to see what the Status page says? Does it say your system is active and online?

If you know what MAC address was registered with Vonage, you can check to make sure the MAC address in the router still matches.

If none of that works, try disconnecting the RT31P2 and letting it sit for 15 minutes before reconnecting it.

Also, when you did the factory reset, did you hold the pin in for a full 15 seconds? If not, you might try that again.

Just some ideas that you might try. I hope you can get it working again tonight and not have to wait for CS.

thanks for the response fletcher see above edit for my solution. I have a feeling this may affect others as it appears to be a common fix for the static noise.

Or like I said above the solution was rained down from above by the Vonage gods.

PS. SSantana I received the firmware upgrade now. thanks for your help

LOL, I sent a PM to SS and within 5 mins or less (I think), he PMs back - and I check my firmware and it is now 1.27.0.1 ! WOW, thanks for the zippy response!

Fortunately, if you need to check the MAC address it is printed on the side of the box that it came in.

That's true, but the MAC address can be changed on the device in the setup screen. So I would think it is safer to check the MAC address in the config screen to make sure it hasn't been changed by the gremlins. Very Happy

after the upgrade....did a reboot......dead air.......shows connection to Vonage but dead air........did a factory reset.....network works, internet work but still dead air......everything in the router shows connected and phone light is solid green......it appears the upgrade didn't take as well....
