agreed, for me it's choice one....and have been sitting on my request. Mine hasnt been as long as others, but I didnt feel like waiting that long to file a complaint towards Choice One. I filed a complaint with FCC and Illinois state CSC, for Choice One delaying my number transfer process.

Just received this from the "mysterious" LNP Department - actually this is a hamster on a treadmill - going nowhere!!!!!!!!!!! Fast

Ongoing since 2/2/05

"I am contacting you in regards to your number transfer. The carrier
has issued a tentative transfer date for 3/18/2005. Please keep in
mind that this date is subject to change. We will send you a
notification when the date is finalized by the carrier.

Sincerely,
LNP Department " Cynic

I've always admitted that Vonage may not be the one holding up the process. That's irrelevant. They are still at fault because they refuse to keep promises and truly follow up with the middle-man. The middle-man may be dragging their feet, but Vonage does little or nothing beyond re-sending electronic requests. Add to that the fact that they keep you on hold, won't give straight answers, don't respond to emails with anything but form responses, and won't pick up the phone voluntarily to work the problem.

Regardless of the problems Vonage can't help, the problems that irritate me are COMPLETELY Vonage's doing.

I take it your transfer didn't happen today then? I was so hoping it would finally go through. 8 months of this is just rediculous.

drew, have you filed a complaint with FCC or state commission? If so, what happened?

Because with an 8 month wait, someone is obviously at fault..... some dimwit CSR probably left your request somewhere.... if you havent tried FCC, maybe its time...

GLORY HALLELUJAH! IT APPEARS I'VE BEEN TRANSFERRED !!! I just called home for lunch and got the Vonage message. Freaked me out! Then I disabled the Vonage voicemail, called again, and got the answering machine on the Vonage line. Amazing!

That's right. It has been a full 8 months to the day since I faxed my first transfer authorization, and it looks like it has finally happened.

Naturally, no call or email from Vonage explaining the details of why it took so long. That would be asking too much.[/sarcasm] Frankly, I think an explanation now would simply be publicizing their own failures. But I'd still feel better about the company if they did. I trust people who make mistakes as long as they own up to them. Given their current attitude, it doesn't seem they will be able to improve. Any AA person knows that acknowledging the problem is the first step. Without doing that, it won't get better.

I'll continue messaging here if the transfer seems incomplete or problematic. Or I'll verify that everything is fine. At the very least, I finally feel justified in having some hope.

P.S.- Thanks to mikedief and others here for your support.

Given how long this took, I wouldn't be surprised if my old provider stayed active for a long time. According to Vonage, sometimes this happens. From Vonage's FAQs:
Quote:
Why am I still receiving bills from my old provider after my number already transferred to Vonage?
------------------------------------------------------
Depending on your billing cycle with your old provider, your transfer might have taken place in the middle of the cycle. That is why you would receive a bill after your number already transferred. Another reason you may be billed after your number transferred is that your old provider may not have fully completed the transfer on their end. This means that your number still remains active somewhere internally at your old provider even though it is working with Vonage. The best way to fix this problem is to provide a Purchase Order Number (PON) from your transfer request to your old provider to show as proof that your number had transferred. You can obtain this number by contacting Vonage Customer Care.
So I preemptively emailed the following to Vonage through their "Contact" page:
Quote:
My number transfer to Vonage completed on 3/9/05. Please email to me my Purchase Order Number (PON) from my transfer request so I can provide it to my old provider as proof that my number has transferred. Thank you.

congrats, drewmie!

hopefully what should happen now is that your pots line is automatically cancelled (you could always test by disconnecting Vonage and reconnecting pots), and you get a prorated refund for the partial month on your pots billing cycle.

hope all continues to work out!

now we just have to find out who now moves into first place on the longest wait.
